  • Publication number: 20110112223
Abstract: The invention relates to colorant compositions, and aqueous latex paints or other water-borne coatings made from them, which have a mitigated environmental impact. Levels of solvents, additives and impurities comprising volatile non-aqueous constituents, alkylphenol ethoxylates (and derivatives thereof), crystalline silica, and/or formaldehyde are decreased relative to those typical of preceding generations of colorants and tinted aqueous latex paints and other water-borne coatings. On the other hand, paint-performance as indicated by any of Stormer viscosity stabilization, rheological profile flow/leveling and sag resistance, water sensitivity and color transfer resistance is comparable to a paint in which the aforementioned solvents, additives and impurities are still present.

Abstract: New polymer concentrates on the basis of polymer additives, like e.g. fillers and flame-retardants, are provided which have in particular an increased bulk density compared to the polymer additives as such. This increased bulk density leads to a substantial improvement in the processability of such concentrates, their dispersibility during compounding and the properties of the resulting polymer compound. Processing improvements include less dust, faster processing and more homogeneous additive dispersion. The invention also provides a process for preparing such new polymer concentrates, a process for preparing polymer compounds containing the new polymer concentrates, the respective polymer compounds and a process for preparing formed parts thereof. Abstract: The flame retardant of the present invention has a flame retardant (a) component, comprising 50 to 97% by mass of a metal hydrate (a-1) component and 3 to 50% by mass of a filler (a-2) component, wherein the filler (a-2) component contains SiO2, Al2O3 and M2/nO. Here, the total of the metal hydrate (a-1) component and the filler (a-2) component is 100% mass, M represents one or more metal elements selected from a group consisting of K, Na, Mg, Ca, Fe and Zn, and n represents a valence of the metal element. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a flame retardant capable of providing a molded article and an electric wire with a coating, which are excellent in flame retardancy, abrasion resistance and flexibility, and also have sufficient mechanical strength at low cost.

  • Patent number: 7776948
Abstract: A composite material comprises a particulate material generated as a waste by-product of an industrial process, and a binder for binding the particulate material into a uniform mass. The particulate material and binder are combined in preselected proportions and compressed to form a counterweight having a preselected density and a fixed configuration. A counterweight is manufactured by selecting a first proportion of a particulate material generated as a waste by-product of an industrial process, selecting a second proportion of a binder for binding the particulate material into a uniform mass, combining the first proportion of the particulate material with the second proportion of the binder into a uniform mass, forming the counterweight from the uniform mass, and incorporating the counterweight into a finished product.
