  • Patent number: 4478962
Abstract: Acid-curable furfuryl alcohol prepolymer binders have improved properties when admixed with a dibasic acid di-ester of the compositionR.sup.1 O.sub.2 C(CH.sub.2).sub.n CO.sub.2 R.sup.2when n is from 1 to 8, R.sup.1 is furfuryl, and R.sup.2 is furfuryl or methyl. The diesters are preferably added in the amount of 5-35% by weight of total composition. These compositions are particularly useful in the preparation of sand cores and molds for foundry use which have improved strength and hardness. These furfuryl esters are also acid-curable and can be used alone as resin binders.

  • Patent number: 4463120
Abstract: A process for preparing an aqueous adhesive composition which comprises preparing a solvent dispersion by mixing rubber, carbon black, vulcanizing agent, tackifying resin and accelerator with sufficient organic solvent to form a solvent dispersion and thereafter emulsifying the solvent dispersion in the presence of water to form an aqueous emulsion. The aqueous emulsion may be used to bond unvulcanized rubber compounds, such as a tread stock to the carcass portion during the formation of a tire.

  • Patent number: 4454279
Abstract: The viscosity of aqueous printing inks for gravure printing is adjusted by means of partially organophilic gels which contain plastics mixtures of at least one polymer swelling in water and at least one polymer not swelling in water or to an insignificant extent only, in a solvent mixture of at least two hydrophilic organic hydroxy compounds and one hydrophobic organic hydroxy compound. The printing inks prepared with the aid of the thickener mixtures of the invention contain up to 90% of water, and can be handled as textile printing pastes.Gravure printing inks on the basis of such plastics gels containing disperse dyestuffs are suitable for the manufacture of transfer printing paper sheets. Since the thickening system adjusting the viscosity contains aqueous alcohols, if any, and no solvents as usual in transfer printing inks, no special measures have to be taken with respect to flammability and explosion risks.

  • Patent number: 4447580
Abstract: A resin composition comprising (A) a polymer having, in the molecule, at least two groups represented by the following structural formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is isopropyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl, a C.sub.5-20 alkyl group, a C.sub.3-20 cycloalkyl group, a C.sub.5-20 alkenyl group, a C.sub.3-20 hydroxyalkyl group, a C.sub.5-20 alkoxyalkyl group, a C.sub.3-20 aminoalkyl group, a C.sub.6-20 aryl group or a C.sub.6-20 arylalkyl group, and n is 0, 1 or 2, and (B) a polymer having an electron attractive group and an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenic double bond adjacent thereto. Though said composition is stable at room temperature, it is crosslinked and cured at high temperatures because the amino group of the polymer (A) adds to the double bond of the polymer (B). Accordingly, said resin composition is suitable for use as a cathodic electrocoating material.
