Patent number: 4897440Abstract: An improved, abrasion-resistant rice hulling roll comprises a core with coating of a nitrile rubber compound, particularly a carboxylated nitrile rubber compound. The hulling rolls of this invention are characterized by substantially improved wear life as compared to conventional rolls made of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR). The nitrile rubbers are also useful in other wear-resistant applications.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1988Date of Patent: January 30, 1990Inventor: Ching-Tsan Lo

Patent number: 4889884Abstract: This invention presents a series of synthetic based cold seal adhesives which are capable of forming a strong bonds at room temperature, yet which may be reeled up without blocking and stored for extended periods of time. Such adhesives can be used in place of the natural rubber based cold seal adhesives currently used, and thus, can be employed in any packaging application where cold seal properties are desirable.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1988Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Assignee: National Starch and Chemical CorporationInventors: Richard A. Glass fiber reinforced poly(vinyl chloride) blend with improved heat distortion and tensile strength
Patent number: 4870126Abstract: A high temperature PVC resin blend is made by blending from 60 to 85 parts PVC with no more than 40 parts of a ("alpha-SAN") copolymer of alpha-methyl styrene ("AMS"), styrene ("S") and acrylonitrile ("AN") and less than 20 parts by wt additives including stabilizers, antioxidants, lubricants, and processing aids. In addition, an impact modifier may be added. The blend with particularly sized glass fibers, may be thermoformed at an elevated processing temperature and pressure, to provide a reinforced composite in which the PVC is covalently bonded to the glass fiber. The composite has a substantially higher HDT and equivalent tensile strength, compared to that of a similarly reinforced, unblended PVC composite, without sacrificing the novel composite's other desirable physical properties.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1987Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: The B.
