Abstract: A water redispersible polymer powder is produced by drying an aqueous mixture of a low carboxylation, low Tg, large average particle size water insoluble film-forming polymer latex or emulsion and a colloidal stabilizer. The latex polymer may have an average particle size of 2000 ? to 5,000 ?, and an amount of carboxylation of 0.1% to 2.75% by weight of at least one ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, salts or mixtures thereof, based upon the weight of the polymer. Dispersions containing the polymer and a polyvinyl alcohol as a colloidal stabilizer exhibit an unexpectedly low viscosity which facilitates spray drying and permits use of high solids content dispersions with low pressure spray drying to increase production efficiency. Cement compositions such as mortars, which contain the redispersible polymer powder exhibit unexpectedly lower rates of viscosity buildup for better workability or troweling, faster set time, and superior heat flow characteristics.

Abstract: Disclosed is a sulfur-containing conjugated diolefin copolymer rubber composed of a conjugated diolefin and an aromatic vinyl compound, wherein (1) the content of sulfur bound to the rubber is 0.01 mmol % or more, (2) the content of the aromatic vinyl compound polymerization unit is not less than 5 wt % and less than 45 wt % relative to the amount of the copolymer rubber, and (3) the content of a vinyl bond (a 1,2-bond) in the conjugated diolefin polymerization unit is 30 mol % or more relative to the amount of the conjugated diolefin polymerization unit. In the the copolymerization between the conjugated diolefin and the aromatic vinyl compound, a specific sulfur-containing polymerization terminator is used to terminate the reaction of the copolymerization. The sulfur-containing conjugated diolefin copolymer rubber has good processability and a good balance among wear resistance, fracture properties and low hysteresis loss.

Abstract: A low-cost and effective coating composition for cardboard allows use of thinner paper board with the same or higher strength relative to conventional water-resistant cardboard. The resulting cardboard can also be repulped and more easily recycled. The inventive coating composition, preferably applied to the fluted inner ply of the cardboard (as a waterproof barrier), is compatible with the utilization of low-cost starch-based adhesives for gluing the fluting to the liners. At least one side of the fluting cardboard is coated with a composition comprising: from about 10% to 70% by weight, and more preferably from about 40% to 60% by weight, of sodium silicate; from about 10% to 60% by weight, and more preferably from about 30% to about 50% by weight, of a synthetic resin emulsion; from about 10% to 50% of a paraffin-water emulsion; and from about 5% to about 25% by weight of added water.

Abstract: Emulsion paint type damping coatings show an excellent film forming property even if it leaves at low temperature from 5 to 20° C. It does not generate a defective coated film like swellings after baking drying and brings out an excellent damping performance within a range of 20 to 60° C. That is, it contains one or more than two kinds of organic chemicals within a range of 0.5% to 5% by weight in total and the MFT, the minimum film forming temperature of the entire resin emulsion is within a range of 5 to 15° C. and the boiling point for a film forming assistant is within a range of 150 to 240° C., thus, it enables to obtain an excellent film forming property at 5° C. and even in baking drying and does not generate a defective coated film like swellings as well. As a result, emulsion paint type damping coatings bring out an excellent damping performance within a range of 20 to 60° C.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a rubber compound, such as for use in tires, containing one or more polyoxyalkylene amines, such as to reduce the amount of silane coupling agent conventionally used therein. The presence of the polyoxyalkylene amine(s) allows for the silane coupling agent to be present in a low percent by weight of silica without substantially sacrificing the performance characteristics of the rubber compound. In one embodiment, the rubber compound includes 100 phr of a natural elastomer, a synthetic elastomer, or combinations thereof, no less than about 20 phr silica, a silane coupling agent present in an amount no more than 8% by weight of the silica, and about 2 phr to about 10 phr of at least one polyoxyalkylene amine defined by a primary amino group attached to the terminus of a polyether backbone.
