Publication number: 20030055145Abstract: A coating composition for forming abrasion-resistant, high clarity coatings is described. It has been found that a macrocrystalline or single crystal mineral abrasive can be added at high levels, about 5 to about 80 percent by weight, to art-recognized film-forming resin compositions for producing coatings exhibiting exceptional abrasion resistance and clarity. Such a coating composition is useful for application to surfaces including wood, vinyl, tile, rubber modified cement, marble, metal, plastic, and laminated surfaces.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2002Publication date: March 20, 2003Inventors: Eugen Safta, Frank Bor-Her Chen, Harvey Richard Forrest, Gregory David Muselman

Patent number: 6518339Abstract: An additive that is used in conjunction with certain dibenzylidene sorbitol-type (DBS) clarifiers and acid scavengers within polyolefin resins to reduce the release of aldehydes from polypropylene material is disclosed. Hydrazides have been shown to be effective at removing residual aldehyde from polyolefins, such as polypropylene. This function can be accomplished with a minimal impact on optical transparent properties imparted to the polypropylene by the clarifying agent. The net effect is an improvement in the organoleptic performance of resins containing clarifiers, and a reduction in the UV-absorbing extractables. Particularly, adipic dihydrazide, when co-compounded into polypropylene homopolymer with 4-methyl DBS, improves the organoleptic performance of the clarifier. Incorporation of dihydrazides into polypropylene pellets reduced air-released aldehyde by nearly 100%.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Milliken & CompanyInventors: Shawn R. Publication number: 20030008968Abstract: The invention discloses improvements in the so-called coated thermal flow process for reducing the pattern dimension of a patterned resist layer on a substrate to accomplish increased fineness of resist patterning, in which a coating layer of a water-soluble resin formed on the patterned resist layer is heat-treated to effect thermal shrinkage of the coating layer with simultaneous reduction of the pattern dimension followed by removal of the coating layer by washing with water. The improvement of the process is obtained by using an aqueous coating solution admixed with a water-soluble amine compound such as triethanolamine in addition to a water-soluble resin such as a polyacrylic acid-based polymer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 19, 2002Publication date: January 9, 2003Inventors: Yoshiki Sugeta, Fumitake Kaneko, Toshikazu Tachikawa
