Abstract: Novel curable fluoropolymer compositions containing fluoroelastomer, peroxide, co-agent, conventional additives, e.g., pigments and fillers, and also containing oxirane as the acid acceptor.
Abstract: A polymerizable coating composition comprises 35-80 parts of an epoxy prepolymer material and 20-65 parts of a vinyl chloride dispersion polymer together with 0.5-10 percent by weight, based upon the weight of the epoxy prepolymer material, of an onium salt photoinitiator which decomposes upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation to initiate polymerization of the epoxy prepolymer material. The vinyl chloride polymer has a high molecular weight represented by an inherent viscosity of 0.60-1.60 and a particle size of 0.5-20.0 microns. The coating is applied to the surface of a substrate and then exposed to a source of electromagnetic radiation to decompose the photoinitiator and initiate polymerization of the epoxy prepolymer material to a tack-free surface condition in which the vinyl chloride polymer is dispersed within the epoxy polymer. This is desirably effected by maintaining the coating at a temperature of about 50.degree.-90.degree. C. for a limited time following exposure to radiation.
Abstract: A powder coating composition for forming multi layer coatings comprising:(1) at least one of finely divided thermosetting addition copolymers having a glass transition temperature of 35.degree. to 75.degree. C. and comprising as comonomers a wt. % of a hardness imparting monomer and b wt. % of a softness imparting monomer based on the copolymer wherein a+b.ltoreq.60, b.ltoreq.a and b.ltoreq.20, and(2) at least one of finely divided thermosetting resinous materials having incompatibility or low compatibility with the copolymer and a substantially greater surface tension than the copolymer when melted at the same temperature and substantially differing from the copolymer in composite parameter.
Abstract: A water-soluble reactive binder, characterized by a combination of at least three of the components(a) at least one halogen-free polycarboxylic acid compound;(b) at least one salt-forming substance selected from the group consisting of alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and quaternary ammonium salts, organic bases and ammonia;(c) at least one component selected from the group consisting of(c1) a polymer containing OH groups; and(c2) an epoxide compound, wherein the components (a) to (c2) are present as such or at least partially in chemically bonded form, a process for its preparation, an article coated with said binder and an adhesive containing said binder.

Abstract: Vinylamine copolymers are disclosed. These copolymers have randomly distributed repeating units represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein Ar is optionally substituted phenyl, the substituents independently selected from C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkoxy and halo; x and y are numbers greater than zero which total 1.0, the ratio of x to y from about 0.05:0.95 to about 0.95:0.05; and n is an integer from about 14 to about 10,000. Acid addition salts of these copolymers are also disclosed, as are vinylacetamide/aromatic hydrolysis precursors and the terpolymeric vinylamine/vinylacetamide/aromatic products of partial hydrolysis. The copolymers are useful as epoxy resin-curing agents and as components of protective or decorative coatings.

Abstract: Impact resistance of PVC is shown to be improved by blending therewith polymers derived from monomer systems comprised of at least about 80 percent by weight ethylene oxide. Polymers of at least about 80 percent ethylene oxide and about 0.1 to 2 percent of a symmetrical diepoxide as crosslinking agent are also disclosed.
Abstract: A thermosetting coating or adhesive composition based on (A) at least one component selected from the group consisting of oligomeric and polymeric compounds containing at least one of the functional groups hydroxyl and epoxy groups, and (B) a polycarboxylic acid mixture comprising trimellitic acid and a major amount of at least one compound of one of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R, R' and R'", being the same or different, each represents a di- to hexavalent hydrocarbon radical having a total of from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, said radical containing from zero to 2 olefinic double bonds, said radical without double bonds being interrupted by up to 3 ether bridges:x and y which may be the same or different, each represents an integer of from 2 to 6;t an integer of from 1 to 5; andz and u, which may be the same or different, each represents zero or an integer of from 1 to 5 and a process for coating a substrate with said composition.
Abstract: Solvent-free hot melt compositions for use as sealants, adhesives, caulking compounds or the like are produced by intimately blending elastomeric polymers with tackifying resins and plasticizers to obtain products having a hardness at room temperature of at least about 5 on the Shore A Durometer scale while being sufficiently soft at temperatures of about 150.degree. F. or higher to permit them to be easily extruded or otherwise applied. Adhesion promoters, lubricants, fillers and the like are preferably added to the composition to improve the properties thereof. The products are characterized by their stability over a wide range of temperatures, their resistance to oxidation and weathering, and their low moisture vapor transmission properties.
