Abstract: A method for producing a modified conjugated diene polymer includes carrying out a modification reaction that reacts a modifier that includes a specific compound with a conjugated diene polymer having a cis-1,4-bond content of 98.5% or more and possessing an active end to introduce the modifier into the active end of the conjugated diene polymer to obtain a modified conjugated diene polymer. The modified conjugated diene polymer that exhibits excellent wear resistance, excellent mechanical properties, and reduced cold flow can be obtained by the method.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an aqueous dispersion composition which comprises an ethylene-unsaturated carboxylic acid ionomer resin (A) neutralized with a mixture of ions including at least one divalent metal ion and at least one ammonium ion, (B) a non-water soluble vapor phase corrosion inhibitor, and (C) water. The dispersion exhibits good shelf-life and excellent rust-prevention properties. Durable corrosion resistant ionomeric coatings can be easily formed therefrom, which when applied to metal surfaces and baked, can form a rust-preventive coating layer showing excellent coating adhesion both to the metal surface and to an over coat paint. Such coatings are particularly useful when applied to a vehicle body or part thereof.
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to plasticized elastomer compositions and methods of preparing plasticized elastomers. The plasticized elastomer compositions comprise an elastomer, and an unsaturated linear or branched dicarboxylic acid diester plasticizer. The compositions are formed by combining the elastic polymer and reactive ester plasticizer with a curing agent to react at least 5% by weight of the diester plasticizer to the elastic polymer. The elastomer includes natural and synthetic rubbers, such as nitrile butadiene rubber, hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber, chlorinated polyethylene rubber, and ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber. The plasticized elastomer compositions disclosed herein provide improved solvent immersion properties, and are useful, for example, for hoses, belts, conveyor belts, motor mounts, gaskets, automotive drive train belts, including transmission belts, roofing compounds, and the like.

Abstract: A halogenated butyl polymer having improved properties, the butyl polymer derived from a monomer mixture comprising a C4 to C8 monoolefin monomer, a C4 to C14 multiolefin monomer and a styrenic monomer with a catalyst system to produce the butyl polymer. The improved properties include faster cure, higher maximum torque, higher delta torque, relatively stable modulus over time, improved hot air aging properties and improved aged flexure properties. These improved properties are believed to result from direct interaction between the styrenic moieties in the polymer backbone with a crosslinking agent added to vulcanize the halogenated butyl rubber.
Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesive compositions having enhanced resistance to water-whitening comprising an aqueous emulsion polymer are disclosed. The polymer comprises the polymerization reaction product of a polymerizable aqueous emulsion comprising: (i) at least one hydrophobic alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate ester of an alcohol, (ii) at least about 1 wt. % of at least one hydrophilic monomer, (iii) at least about 5 wt. % of at least one partially hydrophilic alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate ester of an alcohol, and (iv) a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymerizable surfactant selected from compounds having a terminal allyl amine moiety, substituted phenyl compounds having at least one alkenyl substituent, polyoxyalkylene-1-(allyloxymethyl) alkyl ether sulfate salts, or mixtures thereof, and the average particle size of the polymer is less than or equal to 200 nm. Also disclosed are processes for preparing same.

Abstract: Crosslinked organic polymers such as styrene-divinylbenzene copolymers contain pendant phosphazene or phosphazenium groups. These polymers are excellent alkylene oxide polymerization catalysts.
Abstract: A rubber composition is disclosed containing an ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer rubber (or a blend of an ethylene-propylene-nonconjugated diene copolymer rubber and a diene rubber), a specific alkoxysilane compound, and amorphous silica powder having a specific surface area of 50 to 100 m2/g (BET adsorption). The vulcanized rubber is prepared by vulcanizing such a rubber composition. The rubber composition is excellent in dynamic characteristics and also in mechanical characteristics, dynamic fatigue resistance and thermal aging resistance. It also can provide a vulcanized rubber having the above-mentioned effects.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for using a rubber product or a rubber member in which at least one portion of the surface of the rubber product or the rubber member to be used in clean environments is allowed to swell by using a solvent, and then used. After at least one portion of the surface of the rubber product or the rubber member has been subjected to swelling by the solvent, it is used to handle electronic parts or the elements thereof; thus, a manufacturing method for electronic parts for manufacturing the electronic parts in clean environments is provided.
