  • Patent number: 8505745
Abstract: The present application is generally directed towards polyacrylonitrile- (PAN-) based, amphophilic graft copolymers, for example, for the production of membranes for liquid filtration. In one aspect, the present invention provides systems and methods for preparing high flux, fouling resistant nanofiltration membranes whose pore size can be readily tuned. In some cases, microphase separation of a graft copolymer comprising a backbone comprising polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and hydrophilic side-chains is used. In some cases, nanochannels of tunable width are formed, which may give the membrane permselective properties and/or anti-fouling character. In some cases, a copolymer may be used as an additive in the immersion precipitation casting of ultrafiltration or microfiltration membranes. In certain instances, the additive can segregate to the membrane exterior and/or pore surfaces, e.g.

The copolymer compositions may be block copolymers of polystyrene-polybutadiene-polystyrene (hereafter “SBS”) having cylindrical morphologies; graft diblock copolymers synthesized by ring-opening metathesis polymerization of two cycloalkene monomers, wherein at least one of the cycloalkene monomers is substituted with one or more polydialkylsiloxane groups; or triblock copolymers comprising a middle block comprising a polymerized cycloalkene monomer and two end groups. The synthesized graft and triblock copolymer compositions may have a spherical, lamellar, cylindrical, double diamond, or gyroid morphologies. The copolymer compositions may contain a structural block that imparts essential mechanical properties to the membrane (e.g., polystyrene) and may also contain an alcohol transporting block (e.g.

  • Patent number: 8404791
Abstract: A silicone rubber composition, which comprises 100 parts by weight of vinyl group-introduced methylphenylvinyl-based silicone rubber obtained by copolymerization of dimethylsiloxane copolymerization units as the main component with 3-30 mol. % of methylphenylsiloxane copolymerization units, and 0.2-8 parts by weight of an organic peroxide, where introduction of vinyl groups into the silicone rubber can be attained generally by copolymerization of 0.1-5 mol. % of methylvinylsiloxane. When silica is used as a filler, it is desirable to use a surfactant for silica, and water together. Owing to distinguished low-temperature characteristics and blister resistance, the present silicone rubber composition can be used a suitable seal material for a high-pressure hydrogen gas storage tank, for example, to storage under 70 MPa, and particularly as suitable vulcanization-molding materials for O rings, packings, gaskets, oil seals, valves, etc.
