Abstract: A hydrolytic condensation coating composition includes a silane, an epoxy resin, a hydrolytic condensation catalyst, and a solvent. The weight ratio of the epoxy resin to the silane is 1:0.4˜6. The silane is reactable with the epoxy resin, and is hydrolyzable in the presence of the hydrolytic condensation catalyst to form a three-dimensional stereo-network structure. A hard coat film obtained by coating a plastic substrate with the coating composition, followed by thermo-curing, exhibits high transparency and hardness, and has excellent anti-scratch and chemical-resistant properties. The hard coat film is suitable for use as a surface protective film for displays, polarizers, touch panels, ITO conductive films, other optical elements, and the like.

Abstract: Hybrid films, such as those having good abrasion-resistance and defogging properties, antireflection films including it, optical products, and methods for restoring the defogging property of the hybrid films are disclosed. The hybrid films having a defogging property may be obtained through vapor deposition of an organic compound having a hydrophilic group and a reactive group along with silicon dioxide or with silicon dioxide and aluminum oxide. The antireflection film may be formed on a substrate having the hybrid film as the outermost layer opposite to the substrate. The optical product may comprise a plastic substrate and the antireflection film having the hybrid film. Abstract: Processes have been developed for the manufacture of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), polysilsesquioxanes, polyhedral oligomeric silicates (POS), and siloxane molecules bearing reactive ring-strained cyclic olefins (e.g. norbornenyl, cyclopentenyl, etc. functionalities). The preferred manufacturing processes employ the silation of siloxides (Si—OA, where A=H, alkaline or alkaline earth metals) with silane reagents that contain at least one reactive ring-strained cyclic olefin functionality [e.g., X3-ySi(CH3)y(CH2)2 where y=1-2 and X=OH, Cl, Br, I, alkoxide OR, acetate OOCR, peroxide OOR, amine NR2, isocyanate NCO, and R]. Alternatively, similar products can be prepared through hydrosilation reactions between silanes containing at least one silicon-hydrogen bond (Si—H) with ring-strained cyclic olefin reagents [e.g., 5-vinyl, 2 norbornene CH2?CH, cyclopentadiene]. The two processes can be effectively practiced using polymeric silsesquioxanes [RSiO1.
