  • Patent number: 5083975
Abstract: Fecal leakage and contamination from the vent opening of an animal carcass during slaughtering and processing methods is reduced or eliminated by applying a curable adhesive composition to the vent opening and permitting the applied curable composition to cure to form a cured firmly adherent vent seal after slaughtering but prior to other processing steps. In a preferred embodiment, the curable adhesive comprises a cyanoacrylate adhesive which cures in a matter of seconds under processing conditions to form a cured vent seal which retains its sealing integrity even upon exposure to high temperature and high humidity environments encountered at downstream processing stations. The curable sealing compositions are safe in the fully-cured state and do not liberate undesirable materials during curing.

  • Patent number: 5081212
Abstract: A polyurea of the general formula ##STR1## where X and Y are. independently of one another, a divalent radical whose chain contains in each case at least two carbon atoms, and A and B are, independently of one another, H or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.26)alkyl, and n is an integer greater than 4, which polyurea contains at least one (C.sub.6 -C.sub.26) alkyl group per repeating unit, is prepared by reacting the diamine NHA-X-NHB with roughly the equimolar amount of a diisocyanate OCN-Y-NCO. The polyurea is suitable for preparing ordered monomolecular LB films on a base (film-substrate-system). For this purpose it is dissolved in a volatile organic solvent which is not miscible with water, the solution is spread at the water/air interface, and the layer formed is compressed after the solvent has evaporated and it is transferred to a solid layer base by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique.

Abstract: Disclosed is a class of poly(aminoaromatic) compounds (I) obtained by capping polymeric polyols or polythiols iwth aromatic amine groups wherein the latter groups are linked by --O-- or --S-- to the polyol (polythiol) residues. Also disclosed are the precursor poly(nitroaromatic) compounds (II) from which the compounds (I) are derived. The polyamines are characterized by amine reactivities in respect of isocyanate polyaddition reactions which allows for polymer reaction rates that are intermediate of prior art related polyamine compounds.Accordingly, the compounds (I) find their prime utility in the formation of synthetic resins containing polyurea linkages.
