  • Patent number: 6925778
Abstract: A method of wrapping an object with wrapping material includes the steps of wrapping a first wrapping film around the object during a first portion of a wrapping cycle; and simultaneously wrapping the first wrapping film and a second wrapping film around the object during a second portion of the wrapping cycle. The simultaneous wrapping includes bringing the second wrapping film into contact with the first wrapping film thereby causing the second wrapping film to adhere to the first wrapping film, wrapping the object with the adhered first and second wrapping films, and severing the second wrapping film, with a severing device, after a predetermined length of the second wrapping film has been wrapped onto the object.

Abstract: A wrapping machine has a film dispensing unit (1), which includes first supporting elements (2) and first deflecting elements (51 . . . 510) for a first wrapping film (4) and second supporting elements (6) and a second deflecting element (9) for a second wrapping film (8). The second deflecting element (9) is movable between a first position (I) and a second position (II) by an actuator (10). In the first position (I), the end of the second wrapping film (8) is in contact with the first wrapping film (4) to cause the wrapping films to adhere to each other during the wrapping process. In the second position (II), the second deflecting element (9) is at a distance from the first wrapping film (4) so that the second wrapping film (9) is clear of contact with and adhesion to the first wrapping film (4).

  • Patent number: 6826889
Abstract: A rigid of smoking articles is made to have improved shelf life and to be resealable. A barrier material is sealed around the rigid pack. The rigid pack has a potential or actual access aperture extending from a top face into a major face. The barrier material has a line of severance or weakening defining a flap, which is in register with the potential or actual access aperture. Over the flap is a layer which overlaps it on each severable side with a portion having permanently-tacky adhesive. A non-adhered pull tab is preferably provided on the layer. To open the pack the user lifts the flap and if necessary the access aperture. After removal of a smoking article the gap in the barrier layer is reclosed and released by the repositioning of the adhesive layer, carrying with it the flap of barrier material. A machine for assembling the pack is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20040065054
Abstract: A semiautomatic packaging machine utilizes a single servo motor to rotate a belt around single track, providing linear motion to two opposing loaders attached to the belt. As one loader approaches a retrieval area, an operator manually positions an article or group of articles with a unit of packaging material onto an infeed conveyor. Upon sensing the presence of the material to be packaged, a sensor sends a signal to a processor. The processor controls the servo motor and an elevating component to adjust the horizontal and vertical position of the loader to synchronize the positions of the loader and the article(s). The loader removes the article(s) from the infeed conveyor, and transports them through a closer or other packaging element. The packaged articles are released into a discharge area as a second loader simultaneously approaches the retrieval area to repeat the process.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are presented herein for protecting electronic components from damage during transport or “drop testing.” A packaging system of the present invention includes a novel cover tape bonded to a carrier tape, which cover tape includes a foam layer attached thereto on its underside. The foam layer prevents excessive movement of the electronic components within the cavities, thereby protecting the leads and other parts of the components from damage. The method for protecting the components in the cavities of the carrier tape includes attaching the foam layer on the underside of the cover tape before sealing the cover tape on the carrier tape. When the cover tape is bonded to the carrier tape with the components placed in the cavities, the foam layer prevents excessive movement of the components therein.
