Patent number: 9617019Abstract: An automated method for forming a packaged good article includes establishing a continuous path of travel for a mandrel. The mandrel defines an open interior between a package side and a loading side. With the mandrel at a first angle, a packaging material is wrapped about the mandrel at a first station along the path of travel to define a partial package. Product is dispensed into the partial package at a second station. With the mandrel at the second angle, the partial package and the mandrel are separated from one another at a third station. The first angle of the mandrel (at the first station) differs from the second angle of the mandrel (at the third station). The partial package is closed to form a packaged good article. In some embodiments, the mandrel is horizontal at the first station and is vertical at the third station.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2013Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Inventor: Brenton L. Smith

Patent number: 7117657Abstract: An apparatus is provided for packaging and taking away packaged sequenced product such as mail pieces. The apparatus includes a packaging device having an output end, and adapted to package sequenced products. A clamping device is adjacent to the output end of the packaging device. A conveying system is downstream from the clamping device. The conveying system incrementally moves a drop off tray. The clamping device holds one of a plurality of packaged sequenced products such that the drop off tray is in a position to stack multiple packaged sequenced products of the plurality of packaged sequenced products into the drop off tray. In one embodiment, this allows the packages not to hit the drop off tray during the stacking process. A method of packaging is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2003Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: Robert R. Ricci, J. Edward Roth

Patent number: 4551123Abstract: A container comprises a paper base member covered all around by a heat-shrinkable plastic film. Air is removed from a space formed by the film in which the paper base member is disposed to bring the film against the base member, and at least a part of the film is sealed for closing the space. The base member is either originally formed into the shape of the container, or later formed into the shape of the container to define at least one open end. The open end is covered by a metal lid. A method of making the container includes covering the base member with heat-shrinkable plastic film forming a double wall with the base member in a space between the double wall, removing air from the space between the double wall and sealing the space. Heat applied to the container, for example for sterilizing contents of the container, also shrinks the plastic film to produce a wrinkle-free fit between the film and the paper base member.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1983Date of Patent: November 5, 1985Inventor: Hiromichi Inagaki
