  • Publication number: 20150101289
Abstract: A loose fill packing media that can be used to protect packed items from heat and flame or to contain combustion and heat generated by a packed item comprises a plurality of foam cores formed from a cured thermoset resin coated with a layer of an intumescent material. The foam may be formed by mixing a thermoset resin with micro-balloons and a heat absorbing phase change material, adding a catalyst and shaping the mixture into pellets, curing the shaped pellets and then coating the pellets with the intumescent material. The pellets flow freely at room temperature to facilitate pouring into a box around a package to be protected. If the temperature becomes sufficiently elevated, the intumescent material foams and then chars holding the pellets together. The layer of pellets significantly impedes heat transfer to or from the package surrounded by the pellets.

  • Patent number: 8701879
Abstract: A capsule-in-capsule system comprising at least two segregated chemical reactants is described. An inner capsule contains one reactant and is itself contained, with a second chemical reactant, in an outer capsule. The inner capsule and its contents is fabricated first; then it is incorporated into the second reactant; and the combination of the second reactant and inner capsule is encapsulated in the outer capsule. The reactants may be hydrophobic or hydrophilic and present as fluids, solids or combinations of solid(s) and fluids(s). When subjected to suitably high pressure, the capsule wall materials will fracture or rupture, releasing and preferably mixing all encapsulates to enable their prompt reaction. The utility of the invention is illustrated by its application to development of a corrosion inhibiting passive film on magnesium auto body material and to the adhesive bonding of members where precise positioning is desired.

Abstract: Methods for anti-collision control of pickers in a packaging line are disclosed. The line includes linear conveyors for the inlet of items and for the outlet of items, robots or picking devices that operate with shared working areas. The anti-collision method comprises an algorithm to assign a pickup location or a delivery location to a generic first robot including: checking for a pickup or delivery location already assigned to other robots and in a working area shared with the first robot; dynamically redefining the working area of the first robot to obtain a new working area such that the locations already assigned to other robots are outside of the dynamically-redefined area; assigning of a respective pickup or delivery location belonging to the redefined working area to the first robot. A prediction algorithm is disclosed to improve management of items and balancing of work load between the robots.
