Patent number: 6155028Abstract: A method for packing a material includes air tapping material contained in a feeding hopper to pack it into a container which is to be filled with the material, and separating the material in the feeding hopper and the container into a portion of the material packed in the container where the material has a uniform density and a portion which is the material remaining in the feeding hopper. The air tapping process includes subjecting the space that is supplied with the material to be packed to air pressure which is switched alternately from a low pressure state to a high pressure state and back to a low pressure state or from a high pressure state to a low pressure state and then back to a high pressure state, in either case causing the material to be packed to a high density.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1998Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Intermetallics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hiroshi Nagata, Masato Sagawa, Toshihiro Watanabe

Patent number: 5941055Abstract: An apparatus and method for making a beverage container which contains an instant beverage material individually sealed within the beverage container by a filter disk and an insert disk combination. The apparatus includes a mandrel having a flange and a forming die which is slideably mounted on the mandrel. The forming die has a chamfered outer surface which fits into a beverage container and an inner stepped portion which is configured to engage the flange of the mandrel and receive the filter disk and insert disk to be inserted into a beverage container. A funnel press is provided which has a funnel portion and a press portion. The press portion mates with the mandrel and forming die to draw a portion of the filter disk into the mandrel to simultaneously form a pocket in and crimp a filter disk which is subsequently loaded with an instant beverage material using the funnel portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1997Date of Patent: August 24, 1999Inventor: Frank Coates

Patent number: 5870885Abstract: This invention relates to novel apparatus and methods for inserting and positioning a compressible material into a container and for using the container for detecting a specific environmental parameter or combination of parameters, or for determining the effectiveness of a sterilization procedure. Precise positioning of a plug of compressible material in a container has been discovered to provide flexibility necessary for production of indicator systems that vary in their response to sterilizing conditions to reflect the efficacy of sterilizers based on different modes of sterilization and reproduceability necessary for accurate monitoring of each mode. The invention also relates to test indicators containing controlled volumes of compressed, gas-permeable materials and to methods for using test indicators for determining the efficacy of different types of sterilization processes. The test indicator consists of a plurality of interactive enzymes in a container with at least one opening.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1996Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: North American Science Associates, Inc.Inventors: Harold A. Patent number: 5694742Abstract: An apparatus and method for producing strapless bales of highly compressible textile fibers is disclosed, wherein a compressed block of the fibers is ejected and expanded into a flexible bag. The apparatus includes a supply chamber for supplying loose fibers to a tramping chamber which is stationary. A ram assembly repeatedly tramps the fibers to form a compacted fiber mass which is then formed into a compressed fiber block within a stationary compression chamber disposed in fiber transfer relation to the stationary tramping chamber. The compressed fiber block is ejected transverse to the compression chamber through an ejection sleeve about which an oversized flexible bag is fitted. Due to the fact that the bag is of a greater size than the cross section of the ejection sleeve and due to the stretch and flexibility of the bag, the compressible fibers in the compressed fiber block undergo an expansion process wherein the flexible bag is filled with the compressible fibers to form a strapless bale.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1996Date of Patent: December 9, 1997Inventors: Kenneth W. Patent number: 5636494Abstract: An apparatus for bundling truss plates includes comprises means for forming a plurality of truss plates and means for forming these truss plates into a unitized bundle that is easily shipped, stored, and handled. The apparatus can include means for orienting each of the plurality of truss plates so that the backing members are substantially parallel to a predetermined plane, aligning means for aligning the oriented truss plates so that the peripheries of their backing members are substantially aligned, stacking means for stacking the oriented and aligned truss plates, and interconnecting means for interconnecting the stacked truss plates into a unitized bundle.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1994Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Tee-Lok CorporationInventor: William H. Patent number: 5619842Abstract: The method of the present invention for bagging pre-silage, has the steps of (a) receiving a bale of pre-silage from a loader, (b) compressing the bale in at least one cross section dimension to fit into a bag, and (c) advancing the compressed bale into the bag. The apparatus of the present invention for bagging baled pre-silage, has (a) a support frame having a plurality of lateral walls. The lateral walls define a rear opening to which a bag is attached, and a front opening through which is received the baled pre-silage. At least one of the lateral walls is reversibly movable in a direction toward an opposite lateral wall for compressing or squeezing the baled pre-silage to a size that will fit into the bag. The front opening has a closure and ram for enclosing the baled pre-silage and applying the ram to advnce the compressed baled pre-silage through the rear opening and into the bag.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1995Date of Patent: April 15, 1997Inventors: David Brubaker, Darin Boone

Patent number: 5367857Abstract: Feedstuff is compacted in a tube which lies on the ground by a mobile device which includes a traction vehicle, a trailer unit, and a rotatable feeding screw mounted at the rear of the trailer unit for feeding feedstuff from a container into the tube where it is compacted. The screw is rotated by a hydraulic motor which is driven by hydraulic fluid at a pressure which is proportional to loading of the feeding screw due to compaction of feedstuff by the screw. A brake system brakes the wheels of the trailer unit to produce a braking force while the feedstuff is being fed into the tube. A control unit controls the brake system in response to signals from a transducer which senses the hydraulic pressure at the motor. The braking force is reduced when the sensed hydraulic pressure rises to a predetermined maximum value, and the braking force is increased when the sensed hydraulic pressure decreases to a predetermined minimum value.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Assignee: Sockerbolaget ABInventor: Stig Carlson
