  • Patent number: 5257494
Abstract: An apparatus for continuously filling tubular casings with a fibrous material such as wood fibers. The tubular casings are closed at one end have plurality of holes in the cylindrical side to allow air to flow therethrough. The apparatus further includes supports for the tubular casings so that a mixture of air and the fibrous material may be suctioned into the tubular casing to form a fiber cake. The apparatus further includes the ability to control the mixture of air and fibrous material to ensure the fiber cake formed has a homogeneous density and the ability to change the mixture of air and fibrous material so that fiber cakes with varying densities may be formed. Further, a binder is applied to the fiber cake and the fiber cake is cut into units.

  • Patent number: 4777781
Abstract: An apparatus for increasing the volumetric efficiency of a shipping container of standard tire carcasses is shown as a powered attachment to a standard warehouse tug or forklift. A horizontally extending steel plate, extending forward from the front of the tug, is powered for vertical motion by a double action, two stage hydraulic cylinder. The plate is enclosed by tightly fitting sliding stripper bars, which are spring-loaded into both the top and bottom surface of the plate; the stripper bars have a bronze wiper bushing at the point of contact with the plate, and are powered for wiping motion across the plate by a pair of balanced hydraulic cylinders.A vertical set of powered outriggers is installed on vertically acting hydraulic cylinders to provide a reacting force against the roof or side wall corners of a shipping container. In use, a standard, interleaved rick of tires is installed in a normal manner within a container.

  • Patent number: 4377061
Abstract: A method for wrapping commodities comprising supplying a pair of spaced apart layers of air-impermeable wrapping material and securing the layers together transversely along a leading end. A commodity is inserted between the layers to lie adjacent the secured leading end. The side or sides of the layers are secured together. The layers are then perforated in a transverse row adjacent the commodity on its side opposite the other side adjacent the leading end. The layers are then sealed transversely between the commodity and the row of perforations to completely seal the commodity within the layers. Prior to completely sealing the commodity, but after perforating, the space surrounding the commodity between the layers is evacuated. The invention also covers an apparatus for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4308900
Abstract: A container filling system and method is disclosed which includes a filling valve which receives a product through an inlet port in the side of a vertically movable cylinder having a vertically moving plunger therein that opens and closes the port. While the port is open and product is metered into the pouch, steam is directed through the filling valve to purge air from the product and from the pouch and to clean the product from the plunger. The system also includes pouch spreading fingers which leads the filling valve cylinder into the pouch to assure proper opening of the pouch. A dynamic parallelogram linkage is provided to move the filling valve and finger operating mechanisms vertically as a unit and includes resilient means which raises the filling valve above the top of the pouch in the event the power means which actuates the linkage fails.

  • Patent number: 4104964
Abstract: A packing fixture to facilitate the shaping and contouring of a slide pack containing an inflatable aircraft escape slide or combination escape slide/lift raft is disclosed. The packing fixture includes a base plate configured for receiving a partially formed slide pack with the slide pack being held in place on the base plate by brace bars that are hinged to the base plate and securably clamped against oppositely disposed side surfaces of the slide pack by jackscrews. A top pan, positionable over the slide pack, compresses the slide pack as straps that encompass the slide pack and top pan are tightened within strap tighteners that interconnect the straps and base plate. The contour of the slide pack end and side surfaces is selectively formed by a forming bar having a pressure pad that is forced against selected regions of the slide pack when one end of the forming bar is engaged with the base plate and the other end of the forming bar is forced inwardly toward the slide pack.
