Patent number: 5829233Abstract: An apparatus for loading bales of agricultural products into a protective sheath. The apparatus includes a mobile framework adaptable at one end for connection with a vehicle. A detachable bale bagger is received at an end opposite the vehicle and supports a corrugation of protective sheath. In an attached mode, the apparatus is adaptable to retrieve, transport, handle and sheath bales of agricultural products. A lifting unit is adapted to retrieve bales from a location and mount them in an end-to-end fashion along parallel rails of the mobile framework. As bales are individually retrieved and loaded, a bale moving device movably connected to the mobile framework, rearwardly displaces the incoming bales a distance along parallel rails so as to make space for the next bale. Once the mobile framework is loaded with bales, the apparatus is transported to a location suitable for storage.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Inventor: William Stirling

Patent number: 5425221Abstract: Bales of hay or the like vegetable material are successively loaded on the frame of a wheeled vehicle and actuate a trip plate which causes a pusher plate to push the bale into the open ended portion of a long plastic flexible tube held folded on an arch-shaped upstanding holding device secured to the rear end of the vehicle. The bales loaded within the tube successively drop off the vehicle on the ground and react to the backward thrust exerted by the pusher plate on the next bale to cause forward movement of the vehicle. The vehicle carries its own power supply and is therefore entirely autonomous. The vehicle has a skid plate and the wheels can be raised so that the vehicle moves on the skid plate to thereby increase resistance to the vehicle forward movement thereby increasing the compaction of the bales within the tube. The holding device includes a plurality of tube retaining hook members which are carried by an arch-shaped frame for outward diverging linear movement so as to open the tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Inventors: Normand Pronovost, Rejean Pronovost

Patent number: 5421144Abstract: A machine for sheathing bales of material such as hay, straw and the like. The machine has radially adjustable posts mounted on a polygon frame to stretch a resilient sheath for the free insertion of the bales. The polygon frame is configured with vertical sides that closely conform to the width dimension of the largest sheath in its stretched condition. The machine width is dictated by the frame width, i.e., the distance between the vertical sides and accordingly the machine has a width only as needed to accommodate the designated bale size, the restricted width being desirable for shipping and towing. The movable posts are strategically positioned and individual cylinders are provided for opening and closing the posts for optimum utilization of the power source for the posts.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1994Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Ag-Bag CorporationInventors: Larry Inman, Mike Koskela, Walter L. Patent number: 5419102Abstract: A crop bagging machine is provided with a movable chassis having adjustable brakes and a grain container having a rear tunnel defining a rear opening. A pliable plastic bag is fit to the tunnel with the bag bottom closing the opening. A bin on the chassis receives grain, e.g., from a truck and an auger transports the grain from the bin to an elevated position in the container that is above the height of the filled bag. The adjustable brakes are set to establish the level of grain pile in the container to cover the opening and thereby fill the bag. The brakes are independently controlled to provide limited steering. An additional embodiment of the invention shows downsizing for reduction in cost and in dimension for compatibility with conventional shipping containers while further providing adjustability in tunnel size to accommodate variation in bag diameter. A further additional embodiment provides for a modified conveyor system for the grain that utilizes air flow.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1993Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Assignee: Ag-Bag CorporationInventors: Larry R. Patent number: 5408810Abstract: An improved agricultural feed bagging machine having a pair of bag retainers secured to the top wall of the tunnel to prevent the folded bag from being pulled from the tunnel at a rate greater than is necessary. When large agricultural bags are being employed, the bag retainers are mounted on a cradle which may be lifted and positioned on the top wall of the tunnel.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1994Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Assignee: Versa CorporationInventor: Steven R. Patent number: 5408809Abstract: A bag pan is provided for an agricultural bagging machine wherein the bag pan includes a support which is pivotally secured to the axle of the machine and which is adapted to have various sizes of bag pans removably positioned thereon. A handle extends forwardly from the bag pan support towards the forward end of the machine. When the handle is in its upper position, the bag pan rests on the ground so that the bag may be loaded thereonto. When the handle is in its lower and locked position, the folded bag is supported on the bag pan with the proper amount of clearance being provided between the bag pan and the tunnel floor.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1994Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Assignee: Versa CorporationInventor: Steven R. Patent number: 5398487Abstract: A machine for sheathing bales of material, such as farm crop products, into an elongate elastic bag. The machine is a portable unit and has radially adjustable fin like paddles that define a bale receiving opening. An opened ended bag into which the bales are to be sheathed is placed in a folded or bunched up condition on the paddles. A portion of the bag is pulled off the paddles and tied to define a closed end and the paddles are moved radially outward to enlarge the bale receiving opening and thereby stretch the bag. The machine has a platform for receiving bales to be sheathed, and a bale pusher pushes the bale off the platform through the bale receiving opening into the bag. The bales as they exit the machine and are deposited on the ground are encased in the bag. The bag being elastic conforms closely to the shape of the bale. The pusher is extendable to facilitate pushing the last bale through the machine.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1993Date of Patent: March 21, 1995Assignee: Ag-Bag CorporationInventors: Larry R. Patent number: 5396753Abstract: An agricultural bagging machine is disclosed comprising a vertically disposed feeder positioned above the rotor thereof to move silage downwardly into contact with the rotor. A substantially horizontally disposed feeder is positioned forwardly of the rotor to move silage rearwardly into contact with the rotor. Each of the feeders comprises a plurality of spaced-apart augers which are mounted to permit the separation of the same should the operator inadvertently come into contact with the rotating augers.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1993Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Inventor: Steven R. Patent number: 5394676Abstract: An improved packaging machine that has improved features for feeding a web in the form of a continuous chain of bags through the machine while helping maintain the web in proper alignment and proper tension, and having additional features for improved loading of the bags. The improved web feed includes a dancer assembly equipped with a pair of nips that are driven at speeds responsive to the rate of web travel through the machine so that tension between a web supply and the dancer nips is isolated from the downstream portions of the web. A web feed mechanism which automatically threads the web through baggers is also provided. The web feed mechanism includes elastic belts which frictionally grip the web to isolate the tension in the section between the dancer nips and the belts from the tension of the web feed mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1992Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Automated Packaging Systems, Inc.Inventors: Bernard Lerner, Richard W.
