Derived From Grain, E.g., Prolamines, Etc. Patents (Class 530/372)
  • Patent number: 4716218
Abstract: A process for the production of grain oil, dehydrated alcohol, grain protein and starch, is disclosed. The invention comprises the steps of (a) drying cracked grain, (b) leaching the dried grain with an ethanol solution of 90 to 100% w/v ethanol and recovering dehydrated alcohol and grain oil, (c) extracting the residue of step (b) with a second ethanol solution containing NaOH and recovering food grade protein, and (d) separating starch and fiber from the residue of step (c) by starch hydrolysis or by grinding the residue and separating the starch and fiber by a screen and/or centrifuge.

  • Patent number: 4677065
Abstract: Seeds of a grain legume of relatively low lipid content are processed under conditions found to yield an improved protein isolate which is well suited for human consumption. The seeds of the grain legume are wet-milled in an aqueous medium to form a finely milled slurry with the protein being substantially dissolved in water (as described). Solid material is removed from the protein slurry, and low molecular weight coagulation inhibitors inherently present are removed from the extract of protein by ultrafiltration with the aid of diafiltration to form a protein retentate. The protein retentate is coagulated through the action of proteolytic enzyme (as described) to produce the improved protein isolate of the present invention which optionally may be recovered in a particulate solid form. The resulting protein isolate of the present invention exhibits excellent emulsifying properties and can be used to advantage as an additive for food systems.

  • Patent number: 4634763
Abstract: A novel amylase inhibitor, obtained from hard wheat and durum wheat by using dye ligand affinity chromatography having an inhibitory activity on human salivary amylase of less than 0.1 of the inhibitory activity on human pancreatic amylase is disclosed which is useful for measuring isoenzymes of amylase in the field of clinical tests.

  • Patent number: 4624805
Abstract: A process is provided for recovering food grade protein from agricultural commodities such as corn, for example, prior to alcohol production. The process involves extracting the protein with an alkali or alkali/alcohol solution either with or without sonication. The protein is recovered from the extract by ultrafiltration and the dissolved sugars and starches in the permeate are concentrated by reverse osmosis for addition to the nonprotein constituents for alcohol production.
