  • Publication number: 20110282051
Abstract: The production of a diutan polysaccharide exhibiting increased viscosity properties as compared with previously produced polysaccharide of the same type of repeating units. Such an improved diutan polysaccharide is produced through the generation of a derivative of Sphingomonas sp. ATCC 53159 that harbors a multicopy broad-host-range plasmid into which genes for biosynthesis of diutan polysaccharide have been cloned. The plasmid provides the capability within the host Sphingomonas strain to produce multiple copies of genes for such polysaccharide synthesis. In such a manner, a method of not just increased production of the target diutan polysaccharide, but also production of a diutan polysaccharide of improved physical properties (of the aforementioned higher viscosity) thereof is provided. Such a diutan polysaccharide has proven particularly useful as a possible viscosifier in oilfield applications and within cement materials.

Abstract: A process and the guar produced thereby, the guar having superior performance in hydraulic fracturing applications. The guar is produced by first washing, soaking, and prehydrating guar gum splits in hot water. Calcium carbide which is then added to the mixture results in the production of acetylene gas, forcing the guar cells to open during shearing. Shearing the guar gum splits produces flakes, which are then ground and sieved. The fine guar particles produced are spherical in shape, with improved hydration viscosity, and better cross-linking performance than guars presently available. An operator can use twenty-percent (20%) less guar to create the same fracturing geometry, resulting in less formation damage. The improved guar can even be used at ultra low loadings. Further, it leaves less residue after break.

  • Patent number: 7699958
Abstract: A method for separating carbohydrates from pulping liquors includes the steps of providing a wood pulping or wood or biomass hydrolysis pulping liquor having lignin therein, and mixing the liquor with an acid or a gas which forms an acid upon contact with water to initiate precipitation of carbohydrate to begin formation of a precipitate. During precipitation, at least one long chain carboxylated carbohydrate and at least one cationic polymer, such as a polyamine or polyimine are added, wherein the precipitate aggregates into larger precipitate structures. Carbohydrate gel precipitates are then selectively removed from the larger precipitate structures. The method process yields both a carbohydrate precipitate and a high purity lignin.

Abstract: It has been found that a limulus-positive glycolipid is present in xanthan gum derived from Xanthomonas, which has been commercially available and eaten for many years, and this was purified, and it has been found that this limulus-positive glycolipid has an immunopotentiation effect. A method for safely and inexpensively producing the limulus-positive glycolipid containing an immunopotentiator at high concentrations is provided. The method for producing the limulus-positive glycolipid of the present invention comprises extracting the limulus-positive glycolipid from xanthan gum. A limulus-positive glycolipid composition containing the limulus-positive glycolipid can be used for various applications such as pharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals for animals, quasi drugs, cosmetics, foods, functional foods, feedstuff and bath agents.
