The resulting anatabine is substantially free from contaminants and displays good stability. In an alternative embodiment, the benzylhydrylidene-pyridin-3-yl-methyl-amine may be used in the synthesis of other alkaloids such as anabasine, nornicotine, N-methylanabasine, and anabaseine.
