Abstract: Compounds useful in the treatment of cholesterolaemia are of the general formula ##STR1## or salts thereof in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently denote radicals including hydrogen, alkyl, aryl and heterocyclic radical or together complete a carbocyclic or heterocylic ring, R.sup.3 denotes a radical ##STR2## in which R.sup.9, R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 include hydrogen, cyano, nitro, alkyl and aryl or, in pairs, complete carbocyclic rings, X denotes cyano, nitro or substituted carbonyl, sulphonyl or phosphonyl group, R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a radical defined for R.sup.1 or R.sup.3, and R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 include hydrogen, nitro, cyano, carboxyl, alkyl and aryl or, in pairs, complete carbocyclic rings, with the proviso that R.sup.1 and R.sup.9 are not both phenyl if X denotes CO--C.sub.6 H.sub.6. The compounds exhibit considerably higher hypocholesterolaemic activity than the known clofibrate and in addition exhibit a pronounced nutritive effect, e.g., in a medicated fodder or premix.

Abstract: Novel-9-substituted or unsubstituted thienyl-3,7-dimethyl-nona-2,4,6,8-tetraene derivatives, useful as antitumor agents as well as processes for their preparation and novel intermediates are disclosed.
Abstract: Aminoalkylenephosphonic acids and their alkali metal salts prepared by a reaction utilizing a primary or secondary tetrahydrothiophenamine 1,1-dioxide or the hydrochloride thereof, an aldehyde or a ketone, and orthophosphorous acid are useful in the control of scale and sludge deposition in aqueous systems. When used in combination with known corrosion inhibitors they show synergistic results in inhibiting corrosion of metal surfaces in contact with an aqueous system that is normally corrosive to such metals.
Abstract: Novel antibiotics of the formula: ##STR1## and its salts, esters and amides wherein R is acyl;B is H, OMe, Me or SR wherein R is lower alkyl or aryl;A.sup.1 is hydrogen, hydroxy, or an organic group; and,X is a divalent radical selected from --O--, --CH.sub.2 --, or --NY-- where Y is hydrogen or lower alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms such as methyl, ethyl, i-propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl, n-hexyl and the like, formyl or benzyl. This invention is directed to novel antibiotics, novel intermediates useful in their preparation, and processes for preparing the novel antibiotics. The novel antibiotics are effective against gram-negative bacteria including Proteus vulgaris, E. coli and Salmonella schottmulleri, and gram-positive bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis and are useful in combatting bacterial infections in animals or humans in addition to various industrial applications.

Abstract: The invention relates to compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl and aryl;R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and lower alkoxy;R.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl and ##STR2## R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or a heterocyclic ring having 5 to 6 members at least 4 of which are carbons and one of which is selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur;R.sub.4 may also be hydrogen, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 in combination may be part of a ring having 5 to 6 members at least 4 of which are carbons and the rest are selected from carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur;Z is oxygen, sulfur, --NH or --NR; andn is 0 or 1.
Abstract: A new class of compounds, prepared by reacting a salt of N-phosphonomethylglycine with a cyclic anhydride, have utility as post-emergent herbicides.

Abstract: The invention relates to polychromophoric dibenzoxazole compounds which have been found to be effective ultraviolet stabilizers. The invention also relates to ultraviolet degradable organic compositions containing a stabilizing amount of the polychromophoric dibenzoxazole composition to prevent such degradation. These stabilizers are effective in the presence of other additives commonly employed in polymeric compositions including, for example, pigments, colorants, fillers, reinforcing agents and the like. These ultraviolet stabilizers may also be incorporated into the organic compositions in the polymer melt or dissolved in the polymer dope, coated on the exterior of the molded article, film or extruded fiber.
