  • Patent number: 10710013
Abstract: Systems are disclosed for separating and collecting liquid and particulate from a flowing gas stream. The systems may include a plurality of horizontally oriented helical separators positioned in a vessel between a gas stream inlet and a gas stream outlet. The helical separators form helical channels for the gas stream and may include an upstream conical portion. The vessel includes a first space upstream from the helical separators wherein the gas stream changes direction before entering the helical separators, such that the change in direction causes mechanical separation of liquids or solids from the gas stream. The vessel may also form a second space downstream from the helical separators for collecting liquid and particulate separated from the gas stream. The first and second spaces in the vessel may each include a drain which empties into a common sump, such that the first and second spaces are in fluid communication.

With the aim of reducing the quantity of dirt particles than can get into the transmission case by way of the said passage, the passage includes a first section (27) with a certain flow area and a second section (26) with, by comparison, an at least approximately 50% larger flow area. The first section (27) is situated between the atmosphere and the second section (26). A compressed air source (18) is connected to the passage between the internal volume of the transmission case (11) and the first section (27).

  • Patent number: 6991664
Abstract: An intake system for the combustion air of a motor of a hand held implement is provided. The system includes an air filter and a centrifugal separator. The air filter has a dirt chamber and a clean chamber that is separated therefrom by a filter medium. The clean chamber is fluidically connected with a carburetor of the motor to convey combustion air to the motor. The centrifugal separator splits the air stream into a core flow having low particle density and a peripheral flow having high particle density. The centrifugal separator includes at least two cyclones, wherein the discharged flows from the cyclones are respectively combined in pairs and open out into a common suction tube.

  • Patent number: 6936084
Abstract: A filter for separating contaminants from a gas stream, including (a) a housing having a housing body and a housing head, the housing head having an inlet for the gas stream to be purified, an outlet and a first sealing surface, and (b) a filter element accommodated in the housing, having an element head and an element body having a central element axis and an element interior. The element head has a second sealing surface which cooperates with the first sealing surface. A curved inlet manifold is formed between the inlet and the element interior. The inlet manifold is embodied partly in the housing head and partly in the element head such that the first and second sealing surfaces contact in a sealing plane at a 90° to 60° angle to the element axis. A radially arranged seal is provided on the sealing plane, forming one of the sealing surfaces.

Abstract: An apparatus for the separation of sand from an air stream in a thermal sand removal oven is disclosed. The preferred embodiment of the apparatus comprises a plurality of members comprising two planar members joined to form “V” shaped members. The vertex of the “V” shape points generally in the direction of the air current. The apparatus is installed in the recirculated air stream of a thermal sand removal oven, in a location between the sand molds and the air circulation means. The present invention is also installed in ovens containing metal castings containing sand cores, and ovens containing metal castings both encased in a sand mold and containing a sand core.

Abstract: An upright vacuum cleaner with a cyclonic airflow path includes a floor-engaging base unit, a body unit pivotally mounted to the base unit and a motor/fan assembly mounted on one of the base unit or body units. A dirt collecting enclosure is also mounted on the body unit and includes a first large chamber and a second smaller chamber. A filter unit is disposed in the first large chamber. Dirt laden air is introduced into the first large chamber in a tangential manner so as to impart a cyclonic action to the airflow. The filter in the first large chamber is effective for removing larger particles of debris from the airflow. The remaining airflow is communicated to the second chamber where smaller particles of debris are removed. Airflow from the second smaller chamber is then communicated through a cyclonic chamber disposed above and transverse to the dirt collecting enclosure, to a third chamber where a second filter is disposed.

  • Patent number: 6858051
Abstract: With known devices for separating oil in the crank housing ventilator, oil is collected on a refined gas side of a filter, which in operation of an internal combustion engine, often cannot drain off. In this manner, the liquid level increases, so that the filter is increasingly clogged by the oil. Finally, the oil is carried away from a gas stream. In this manner, the oil use of the internal combustion engine greatly increases. With the device of the present invention, the oil collected on the refined gas side is collected in a liquid storage unit (10), whereby the liquid storage unit (10) is protected from the stream, so that the gas stream can not carry away oil any longer. The device includes a support body (9), which is impermeable to the stream by means of a cut-off wall (23), in order to prevent a carrying-off of the oil.

Abstract: A separator for liquid, in particular for removing oil from crankcase gases, having a cover (11) into which a mount (13) for a cylindrical separating cartridge (14) is incorporated. The separating cartridge is composed, for example, of a non-woven separating material (20) wound around a support body (22) having end plates (33) on the end faces (32) of the support body. The end plates (33) may be composed, for example, of a two-component synthetic resin material. This results in a stable component which can be sealed utilizing the elasticity of the end plate (33) when pushed into the mount (13). This results in a cost effective exchangeable part in which several seals are saved in the complete structural component and yields a structural unit having increased economic effectiveness.
