    Abstract: A separator for separating entrained particles from a fluid flow incorporates a cyclone chamber having an outer wall and a cyclonic flow region; a fluid inlet for introducing a cyclonic fluid flow to the cyclonic flow region; a fluid outlet for removing the fluid flow from the cyclone chamber; a particle separation member positioned in the cyclone chamber beneath at least a portion of the cyclonic flow region, the particle separation member having an upper surface and plurality of apertures; and a particle receiving chamber disposed beneath the particle separation member for receiving particles passing into the particle receiving chamber through the apertures. In operation, a fluid is introduced to flow cyclonically in a chamber having a cyclonic flow region and a particle separation member positioned in the cyclone chamber to define a particle receiving chamber. The back pressure in the chamber is adjusted to promote the formation of a laminar boundary layer adjacent the particle separation member.

    Abstract: Known drips for gas transmission pipelines do not work effectively for two phase liquid-gas flows. Disclosed is a drip having two parts; a flow separator and a receptacle. The flow separator comprises a pipe having circumferential apertures in the wall. Surrounding the pipe and the apertures is a shell that defines an annular passage between the pipe wall and the shell. Annular gas liquid flow entering the separator will be divided. Most of the gas will pass the apertures and continue through the pipe. Most if not all of the liquid and some gas will pass through the aperture. It is then passed to a receptacle where the fluid is removed. The secondary gas flow is then either recombined with the main flow or can be diverted to a secondary system. Periodically the liquid collected in the receptacle can be emptied.

    Abstract: An air cleaner for an internal combustion engine, having a dust dumping valve. The air cleaner includes an outer housing containing a filter element and air is introduced into the housing and swirled outwardly before passing through the filter element for discharge. The heavier dust particles in the air are moved under centrifugal force to the inner surface of the housing and are discharged through a conical outlet in the lower end of the housing to a dust trap. The lower end of the trap is provided with a plurality of openings which are enclosed by a flexible rubber-like disc. When the engine is operating, the engine vacuum will draw the disc tightly against the openings to prevent the entrance of air into the trap. The weight of the dust collected in the trap in combination with the engine vibration will intermittently cause the rubber disc to drop away from the openings to discharge a portion of the collected dust.
