Patent number: 6548609Abstract: The present invention is related to an improved process for obtaining oleochemical polyols from oils, principally of a vegetable origin. The polyols obtained consist of a mixture of ethers, esters, primary and secondary alcohols and have the characteristic of being self-compatible with the new blowing agents: hydrochlorofluorocarbons, HCFC's, hydrofluorocarbons, HFC's and hydrocarbons, HC's of a low molecular weight and low boiling point. The process of this invention is characterized because it uses Lewis type acids in such a way that they do not form precipitates and therefore it is not necessary to remove precipitates from the polyol. The process of the present invention makes it possible to obtain polyols with high functionality and controlled reactivity. These characteristics render the product suitable for use as a raw material in the production process of rigid foams, such as polyurethane for spraying, refrigeration and imitation wood, coatings, among others.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2001Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: Resinas Y Materiales S.A. Patent number: 6541061Abstract: By this invention, low calorie fat compositions comprising the use of acylated glycerides are provided. Of particular interest is the use of triglyceride compositions having a at least one acylated fatty acid. Preferably, the acylated fatty acid has a melting temperature above 40° C. The acylated glyceride compositions find use as low calorie fat ingredients in food compositions. The low calorie fat compositions of the present invention demonstrate a caloric value of less than 6.5 kcal/g. Such low calorie fat compositions find use in the preparation of food compositions wherein at least a portion of the fat ingredients have been replaced with a acylated glyceride compositions of the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Monsanto Technology LLCInventors: Damodara Gopal, John Finley

Patent number: 6537787Abstract: A process for obtaining polyunsaturated fatty acid concentrates comprising subjecting a fish oil containing docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), to a selective enzymatic hydrolysis in position 1, 3 or 2, to obtain a mixture of free fatty acids, monoglycerides and diglycerides, separating the constituents of this mixture, collecting the free fatty acids which are purified by crystallization from urea, to increase the EPA and DHA content, decomplexing the isolated fatty acids by an inter-esterification between the free fatty acids concentrated into polyunsaturated fatty acids and the crude oil, in the presence of a lipase specific for position or steric hindrance, to obtain a mixture enriched with polyunsaturated fatty acid triglycerides which is separated and freed from the free fatty acids and a process for enrichment with polyunsaturated fatty acids (EPA, DHA) of phospholipids by an enzymatic route, as well as in the synthesis of monoacylglycerols of polyunsaturated fatty acids of theType: GrantFiled: March 13, 1998Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Inventor: Gildas Breton
