  • Patent number: 6143348
Abstract: Liquid oils with a SAFA-content of less than 5 wt % can be obtained by conversion of a fatty compound (A), preferably having a SAFA-level of more then 5 wt %, with a reactant (B), capable of forming different reaction products of the non-triglyceride type (C.sub.1, C.sub.2 etc.) having a different melting point and/or different solubility in compound (A); the SAFA-level of the end product can be controlled by separating the precipitate of the higher melting more saturated reaction-products (C.sub.1, C.sub.2 etc.) from the rest of the reaction mixture.

  • Patent number: 6124357
Abstract: Iodinated fatty acid esters, iodinated fatty acids and fluid pharmaceutical-grade stable derivatives thereof are produced by iodohydrination in an organic medium using alkylsilylated derivatives, such as trimethylsilyl chloride or trimethylchlorosilane, that react with an alkaline iodide such as sodium iodide, whereafter hydroiodic acid is formed in situ by exposure to water and the hydroiodic acid is reacted with fatty acid esters and particularly rapeseed oil fatty acid methyl esters that may be used as a biofuel for gasoline engines to provide a low-cost product, and are used therapeutically, in particular for treating goitre linked to iodine deficiency.

  • Patent number: 6103770
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of ethoxylated fatty acid esters self-emulsifiable compounds particularly useful for the preparation of phytosanitary treatment products or as drugs for veterinary or human use. According to the invention, said fatty acid esters comprise a total number of ethylene oxide molecules such that the HLB value (hydrophilic-lipophilic balance) of said compounds is comprised between about 4 and about 10, preferably between about 5 and about 9. Said ethoxylated fatty acid esters form in an original way self-emulsifiable components without requiring any other surfactant, and they are biodegradable and capable of dissolving active principles which are little or non water-soluble.

  • Patent number: 6063947
Abstract: An endogenous oil extracted from Brassica seeds is disclosed that contains, after crushing and extraction, greater than 86% oleic acid and less than 2.5% .alpha.-linolenic acid. The oil also contains less than 7% linoleic acid. The Brassica seeds are produced by plants that contain seed-specific inhibition of microsomal oleate desaturase and microsomal linoleate desaturase gene expression. Such inhibition can be created by cosuppression or antisense technology. Such an oil has a very high oxidative stability in the absence of added antioxidants.
