Abstract: The present invention a process for the preparation of a compound of the formula (X) useful as precursor for the A-ring in taxanes ##STR1## wherein R' is an ##STR2## in which R" is a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group of 1 to 10 carbon atoms. The invention further relates to the novel compound (X) and to novel intermediates in said process.
Abstract: Surface active anion-cation complexes are synthesized where an organic or organosilicon compound with at least one epoxide group is reacted with a quaternary ammonium hydrogen sulfite of the general formulaHN.sup.+ (R.sup.1).sub.3 SO.sub.3 H.sup.- IwhereinR.sup.1 within the molecule is the same or different and can be(1) an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group with 1 to 18 carbon atoms,(2) a phenyl group, or(3) a group of the formula C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 CONH--(CH.sub.2).sub.m --, in which n can be a number from 7 to 17 and m is 2 or 3,in the presence of a polar solvent in such amounts so that the molar ratio of the epoxide group to HN.sup.+ (R.sup.1).sub.3 SO.sub.3 H.sup.- is 2:1.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a series of novel silicone isethionate polymers, useful as detergents and softeners for hair, and fiber and conditioners skin. The compounds of the present invention are prepared by the reaction of a carboxy silicone with an isethionate to produce novel surface active materials useful in personal care applications like soap bars.

Abstract: An N-(N'-long chain acyl-.beta.-alanyl)-.beta.-alanine represented by formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R represents a straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl or alkenyl group having from 7 to 23 carbon atoms; and M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an ammonium, an alkylammonium, an alkanolammonium or a basic amino acid;or its salt and a detergent composition containing the same are disclosed. The detergent composition of the present invention is excellent in foaming power and gives a good feel after washing.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a tautomeric mixture of compounds of the formulas ##STR1## wherein W is hydrogen or C.sub.6 H.sub.13, which comprises treating a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein R is unsubstituted or substituted alkoxy, arylalkoxy, aryloxy or amine and R.sup.1 is hydrogen or when R is alkoxy, substituted alkoxy, substituted amine, unsubstituted or substituted arylalkoxy R.sup.1 can also be metal, with a compound of the formula ##STR3## wherein W is as described above, both X and Y are reducible groups or X is hydrogen and Y is a reducible group or Y is hydrogen and X is a reducible group and, Z is hydroxy or a leaving group to form the compound of formula IV ##STR4## wherein W, X, Y and R are as defined above, the compound of formula IV is treated with a low valent metal to form a tautomeric mixture of compounds of formulas I and Ia, which are useful in the synthesis of tetrahydrolipstatin.
Abstract: A branched monoester represented by the formula R.sup.1 COOR.sup.2 acts as a silicone-dissolving or solubilizing agent. In the formula, R.sup.1 is an isoalkyl group having 4 to 17 carbon atoms, and R.sup.2 is an isoalkyl group having 3 to 18 carbon atoms.
Abstract: The invention relates to a series of novel silicone alkoxylated ester salts which contain terminal carboxyl groups which have been neutralized with various fatty amine compounds. This class of compounds provides a high dense foam and unique solubility in many organic solvents as well as very substantive salts of the carboxylic acid when neutralized with base. The compounds of the present invention are prepared by reacting a the hydroxyl group in a silicone polymer with an anhydride, followed by neutralization with an amine.
Abstract: A cationic silicone compound which can be employed in a variety of environments, such as a fiber lubricant, textile fabric softener, hair conditioner, and skin conditioner. The cationic silicone is formed from an amino silicone compound which has the following Formula (I): ##STR1## wherein a, b, and c are 0-300; d is 0-4, preferably 1;R.sub.1 comprises hydrogen, an alkyl, aryl, alkynl, alkenyl, alkyloxyalkylene group which may be unsubstituted or substituted with P,N, or S moieties;R.sub.2 is defined the same as R.sub.1 and can also be a carboxylic acid residue preferably a fatty acid residues, with the proviso that where R.sub.2 is a carboxylic acid residue, the R.sub.1 attached to the terminal N is hydrogen;R.sub.3 is defined the same as R.sub.2 and can also be alkoxy, aryloxy or oxyalkylene groups;R.sub.4 is defined the same as R.sub.3 and can also be an amino-substituted alkyl group;Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.
