  • Publication number: 20130281725
Abstract: The invention provides a process for producing monoalkyltin trihalide or a mixture of monoalkyltin trihalide and dialkyltin dihalide by: (a) contacting dialkyltin dihalide with an alkylation agent and, optionally, tin tetrahalide, to form a tetraalkyltin mixture comprising tetraalkyltin, trialkyltin halide, and dialkyltin dihalide; (b) reacting the tetraalkyltin mixture with tin tetrahalide to form a monoalkyltin trihalide mixture comprising monoalkyltin trihalide, dialkyltin dihalide and optionally triaklyltin halide; (c) processing the monoalkyltin trihalide mixture to separately recover the monoalkyltin trihalide and a dialkyltin dihalide stream optionally containing trialkyltin halide; and (d) recycling at least a portion of the dialkyltin dihalide stream recovered in step (c) to the contacting step (a).

  • Patent number: 6846944
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the direct preparation of mixtures of monoalkyltin trichlorides RSnCl3 and dialkyltin dichlorides R2SnCl2 in one reaction step by partial alkylation of tin tetrachloride using alkylaluminum compounds in the form of their ether donor complexes, wherein an amount of ether greater than that required for stoichiometric formation of the donor complex is used in the reaction.

  • Patent number: 5288886
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of preparing trialkyl-tin hydrides by a process that ensures outstanding long-term stability.Bis-[trialkyl-tin]oxides are dissolved in a solvent that mixes only to some extent, if at all, with water and converted with an aqueous solution of sodium borohydride stabilized with a base. The product is obtained by phase separation and optionally by distillation. The trialkyl-tin hydride is obtained almost quantitatively with a yield of more than 95%.

  • Patent number: 5087711
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the preparation of tetraalkyl-tin wherein tin-tetraacetate is first dispersed in tetrahydrofuran and trialkyl-aluminum is slowly added to the dispersion in an amount sufficient to cause complete reaction. The reaction is carried out at a temperature of <80.degree. C. The reaction mixture is then heated to the reflux temperature of the tetrahydrofuran for about 1 to 2 hours and until complete reaction. The aluminum triacetate is then removed and the tetrahydrofuran is distilled off.

  • Patent number: 5055603
Abstract: A method is disclosed for the production of dialkyl-tin-dichlorides whose alkyl groups have 1 to 22 carbon atoms. Trialkyl-aluminum is slowly added to a solution of tin-diacetate-dichloride and tetrahydrofuran in the mole ratio of about 2:3. The aluminum-triacetate precipitating during the reaction is removed by filtration and the tetrahydrofuran used as solvent is removed by distillation.
