Publication number: 20130281725Abstract: The invention provides a process for producing monoalkyltin trihalide or a mixture of monoalkyltin trihalide and dialkyltin dihalide by: (a) contacting dialkyltin dihalide with an alkylation agent and, optionally, tin tetrahalide, to form a tetraalkyltin mixture comprising tetraalkyltin, trialkyltin halide, and dialkyltin dihalide; (b) reacting the tetraalkyltin mixture with tin tetrahalide to form a monoalkyltin trihalide mixture comprising monoalkyltin trihalide, dialkyltin dihalide and optionally triaklyltin halide; (c) processing the monoalkyltin trihalide mixture to separately recover the monoalkyltin trihalide and a dialkyltin dihalide stream optionally containing trialkyltin halide; and (d) recycling at least a portion of the dialkyltin dihalide stream recovered in step (c) to the contacting step (a).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 1, 2011Publication date: October 24, 2013Applicant: PMC ORGANOMETALLIX, INC.Inventors: George J. Publication number: 20100247926Abstract: Monobutyltinchloride (“MBTC”) is recovered from an effluent vapor stream of a chemical vapor deposition coating process practiced to deposit a fluorine doped tin oxide layer over a glass ribbon. The vapor stream is condensed to a temperature to increase the ratio of MBTC to water in the liquid condensate. The condensed liquid is stored in a phase separation tank to separate the condensed liquid into at least two layers. The layers are individually removed from the phase separation tank, and the layer from the phase separation tank having a density equal to or greater than 80% the density of MBTC is further processed through a vacuum distilling operation to provide MBTC of an acceptable quality to use in the recovered MBTC in the coating process. The recovered MBTC is added to the coating precursors of the chemical deposition process.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2009Publication date: September 30, 2010Applicant: PPG INDUSTRIES OHIO, INC.Inventor: Wagner R. Patent number: 7592472Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of monoalkyltin trihalides of the formula RSnHal3, in which R=alkyl or cycloalkyl and Hal=Cl. Br or I. Said process comprises contacting the corresponding alkene or cycloalkene, stannous halide SnHal2, hydrogen halide HHal and optionally Sn metal, in the presence of at least one transition metal-based catalyst, thereafter isolating the monoalkyltin trihalides from the medium. The present invention also relates to a process for the production of dialkyltin dihalides of the formula R2SnHal2 from monoalkyltin trihalides of the formula RsnHal3?. in which R=alkyl or cycloakyl and Hal=Cl, Br or I. Said process comprises contacting monoalkyltin trihalides RsnHal3 and Sn metal, optionally thereafter isolating the dialkyltin dihalides R2SnHal2 from the medium.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2006Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: Arkema VlissingenInventors: Maarten Boele, Berth-Jan Deelman, Gerard Van Koten, Erika Monika Wagner

Patent number: 4987245Abstract: Organotin fluorides, notably dialkyltin difluorides, well adpated for the manufacture of coated insulating glassware and having controlled morphology, are prepared by reacting a stannic compound, e.g., an organotin chloride, with a fluorinating agent, e.g., hydrofluoric acid or an ammonium fluoride, admixing the organotin fluoride thus produced in a solvent that is immiscible with the fluorinating agent but which solubilizes the organotin fluoride therein, subsequently or simutaneously heating the solvent medium to a temperature sufficient to release unreacted fluorinating agent therefrom, and cooling such solvent medium and thereby crystallizing therefrom an organotin fluoride having a controlled morphology, e.g., well defined platelets having a characteristic DTA spectrum.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1989Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Assignee: Rhone-Poulenc ChimieInventor: Lionel Bonneau
