Abstract: Novel arylalkyl silicone sulfonate-silicate copolymers are disclosed which are useful in inhibiting the corrosion of metals below sodium in the electromotive series that come in contact with aqueous liquids, especially aqueous alcohol solutions used as heat transfer media. Antifreeze concentrates and a process for inhibiting corrosion are also disclosed.
Abstract: Surface-active polysiloxanes are disclosed having the formula: ##STR1## in which x denotes an integer from 3 to 10 and A denotes a cationic, anionic, zwitterionic or nonionic hydrophilic unit which contains one or more of the same or different groups which are amine, amine oxide, ammonium, ammonioalkylcarboxylate, ammonioalkylsulphonate, amide, sulphonamide, ether, thioether, sulphoxide, hydroxyl, ester or acid groups. These polysiloxanes are particularly useful for use in cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions, especially compositions for the hair.
Abstract: Silane-functionalized ultraviolet screening agent precursors comprise compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is ##STR2## R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkanoyl, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxyl, X is 0,1 or 2, y is 1,2, or 3 and x+y=3. Under ultraviolet radiation the compounds rearrange to the corresponding .alpha.-hydroxybenzophenones which protect substrates, especially transparent plastics, against degradation.
Abstract: A composition comprising (a) an organic compound having at least one hydrolyzable silyl group and (b) an organic amine and/or an alkali metal hydroxide. The composition is curable upon exposure to moisture, and has superior properties, such as hardness, toughness and stain resistance, when used for example as a coating. The composition can be utilized as a coating material.
Abstract: Expansion of a ring structure and extension of a noncyclic structure containing a ketosulfone grouping in the ring by reaction with a 2-X-alkyl-3-allyl-trialkylsilane intermediate in which X is a leaving group and conversion to an expanded ring.
Abstract: This invention relates to novel sulfur-containing organosilicon compounds comprising substituted dithiocarbamates and substituted sulfenate esters and the use of these novel compounds as reinforcing promoters for silica-filled rubber compositions.
Abstract: Sulfonato-organosilanol compounds and aqueous solutions and compositions thereof are provided which have at least one sulfonato-organic substituent therein. The weight percentage of oxygen in the compounds is at least about 30% and the weight percentage of silicon in the compounds is not greater than about 15%, these percentages being taken with reference to the water-free acid form of the compounds. Hydrophilic siliceous surfaces and processes for imparting hydrophilicity to such surfaces are also provided.
