Abstract: A method of producing a mono alkyl tin halide from a poly alkyl tin halide, comprising providing the poly alkyl tin halide, adding a Lewis acid catalyst to the poly alkyl tin halide to create a reaction mixture, heating the reaction mixture, dosing a hydrogen halide into the reaction mixture to convert the poly alkyl tin halide into a raw product containing mono alkyl tin halide.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for producing monoalkyltin trihalide or a mixture of monoalkyltin trihalide and dialkyltin dihalide by: (a) contacting dialkyltin dihalide with an alkylation agent and, optionally, tin tetrahalide, to form a tetraalkyltin mixture comprising tetraalkyltin, trialkyltin halide, and dialkyltin dihalide; (b) reacting the tetraalkyltin mixture with tin tetrahalide to form a monoalkyltin trihalide mixture comprising monoalkyltin trihalide, dialkyltin dihalide and optionally triaklyltin halide; (c) processing the monoalkyltin trihalide mixture to separately recover the monoalkyltin trihalide and a dialkyltin dihalide stream optionally containing trialkyltin halide; and (d) recycling at least a portion of the dialkyltin dihalide stream recovered in step (c) to the contacting step (a).

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for the production of monoalkylin trihalides of the formula RSnX3 wherein R-alkyl or cycloalkyl and X—Cl, Br or I involving a redistribution reaction between tetraorganotins, triorganotin halides or diorganotin halides and tin tetrahalides, said process comprising contacting tetra-(R4Sn), tri-(R3SnX) or diorganotin halides (R2SnX2) with SnX4 to afford said monoorganotin trihalides in the presence of at least one transition metal complex, said complex comprising at least one transition metal M, selected from Group VIII of the periodic Table of elements, at least one monodentate ligand or bidentate ligand, L, L′, or L″, and optionally one or more anions, X, of an organic or inorganic acid, as a catalyst or catalyst precursor.

Abstract: Organotin stabilizer compositions containing more than 5 percent by weight of monoalkyl tin derivatives of mercaptoacetic acid esters, such as mono-n-octyltin-S,S',S"-tris(isooctyl mercaptoacetate), are useful as food-grade stabilizers for vinyl halide polymers.
Abstract: A process is described for preparing high purity unsymetrical hydrocarbontin chlorides in less than one hour at temperatures below 90.degree. C. utilizing a combination catalyst-complexing agent resulting in yields above 98%.

Abstract: A method for making organotin halides of the formula R.sub.3 SnX, R.sub.2 SnX.sub.2, or RSnX.sub.2 by the redistribution of appropriate mixtures of organotin compounds in the presence of stannous fluoride as a catalyst.
Abstract: Vinyl chloride polymers suitable for use in food packaging materials are stabilized against discoloration and embrittlement resulting from exposure to heat using mono-n-octyltin compounds of the general formula H.sub.17 C.sub.8 Sn(SCH.sub.2 COOR').sub.3, wherein R' represents an alkyl radical containing eight carbon atoms.
