Abstract: A process for producing organic sulfur acid or a salt thereof of the present invention allows an organic substrate to react with a sulfur oxide in the presence of a metallic compound catalyst and in the absence of N-hydroxy and N-oxo cyclic imide compounds and thereby yields a corresponding organic sulfur acid or a salt thereof. Such organic substrates include, for example, (a) homocyclic or heterocyclic compounds having a methylene group, (b) compounds having a methine carbon atom, (c) compounds having a methyl group or methylene group at the adjacent position to an unsaturated bond, (d) non-aromatic heterocyclic compounds having a carbon-hydrogen bond at the adjacent position to a hetero atom, and (e) straight-chain alkanes. The sulfur oxide includes, for example, sulfur dioxide. This production process can efficiently produce an organic sulfur acid or a salt thereof under mild conditions.
Abstract: A composition of lactoferrin, ovotransferrin or serotransferrin in combination with desferrioxamine methanesulfonate or other low molecular weight chelators for treating viral infections, and methods of treatment utilizing these compositions, is described.
Abstract: Processes for the production of partial glyceride sulfates comprising the steps of:A) reacting a mixture containing glycerol and at least one triglyceride with gaseous sulfur trioxide to produce at least one acidic reaction product;B) ageing the at least one acidic reaction product at an elevated temperature; andC) neutralizing the at least one aged acidic reaction product with an aqueous base in the presence of a buffer.
Abstract: Sulfurized olefins having no detectable reactive olefinic bonds, particularly sulfurized isobutylene, are reacted with dihydrocarbyl phosphates or phosphites. The resulting product is useful as an extreme pressure and wear additive for lube oil compositions.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of insecticidally active esters of the general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or diferent from each other and represent a hydrogen or a halogen atom; R.sub.3 represents ##STR2## (wherein R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 represent a chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group when R.sub.4 is identical to R.sub.5, but R.sub.4 represents a chlorine or bromine atom or a methyl group and R.sub.5 represents a trifluoromethyl group when R.sub.4 is different from R.sub.5, and R.sub.6 represents a halogen atom or a difluoromethoxy group); and R.sub.8 represents a hydrogen or a cyano group. The characteristic of the present invention is a one-step procedure comprising directly condensing an organic acid, an aldehyde (and a water-soluble cyanide) in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst and a water-soluble inorganic base by the use of a sulphonyl compound as a condensing reagent.
Abstract: There is provided a process for the production of aldehydes wherein an oric halide is reacted with carbon monoxide at a superatmospheric pressure in the presence of a hydrogen donor and in the presence of a base and of a catalyst in a solvent system.Catalysts of choice are transition metal catalysts. A preferred temperature range is from about 50.degree. to 150.degree. C.
