Patent number: 5847183Abstract: Fatty alcohol (ether) sulfates which are obtained by co-sulfating mixtures of (a) C.sub.8-22 fatty alcohols and (b) C.sub.8-22 fatty alcohol ethoxylates containing an average of 1.9 to 3.9 ethylene oxide units in a ratio by weight of 20:80 to 80:20, and then neutralizing the mixtures thus co-sulfated with aqueous bases. The substances have distinctly improved low-temperature behavior in relation to ether sulfates with comparable degrees of ethoxylation, and are useful as components of surface-active compositions.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1996Date of Patent: December 8, 1998Assignee: Henkel CorporationInventors: Wolfgang Schmidt, Karl-Heinz Schmid, Michael Neuss, Birgit Middelhauve, Juan Carlos Wuhrmann, Dagmar Zaika

Patent number: 5581009Abstract: A process for improving the yield of crystallization of L-phenylalanine monomethyl sulfate from an aqueous solution containing L-phenylalanine and monomethyl sulfate, by adding an effective crystallization improving amount of a salt of an inorganic or organic acid with an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or ammonium, to the aqueous solution.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Ajinomoto Co., Inc.Inventors: Toyoto Hijiya, Naoko Sugiyama, Tadashi Takemoto

Patent number: 5466864Abstract: The present invention provides crystals of L-phenylalanine monomethyl sulfate which have low solubility compared to L-tyrosine and D-phenylalanine. The L-phenylalanine monomethylsulfate crystals are obtained by subjecting a solution containing monomethyl sulfuric acid and phenylalanine to crystallization.Further, the present invention also provides a process for recovering L-phenylalanine from a water layer by neutralizing the esterified reaction, extracting an ester of L-phenylalanine therefrom with an organic solvent, and recovering remaining L-phenylalanine in the water layer as L-phenylalanine monomethylsulfate. L-phenylalanine monomethyl sulfate is obtained by esterifying L-phenylalanine and methanol in the presence of sulfuric acid, neutralizing the esterified solution with a base in the presence of water, extracting the produced L-phenylalanine methyl ester from the neutralized solution with an organic solvent, and then crystallized the resultant water layer under acidic condition.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1994Date of Patent: November 14, 1995Assignee: Ajinomoto Co., Inc.Inventors: Tadashi Takemoto, Toyoto Hijiya, Teruo Yonekawa, Chiaki Mochizuki

Patent number: 5412136Abstract: A process for the preparation of alkyl sulfate powders, which entails spraying an aqueous solution or dispersion of alkyl sulfates into a head part of a spraying tower through single-component nozzles under pressure sufficient to form a spray mist, and drying the resulting spray mist in co-current manner using an inert gas at a temperature sufficient to afford a powder having a bulk density of at least 300 g/l.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1993Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Assignee: Huels AktiengesellschaftInventors: Michael Stehr, Adelbert Otte, Helmut Glaser, Hans-Josef Ratajczak, Klaus Schulze

Patent number: 5403963Abstract: A process for producing lower alcohols is presented in which an olefinic feed and H.sub.2 SO.sub.4 react to form a mixture comprising alkyl sulfates, alkyl disulfates, fat acid, and nonpolar hydrocarbons. The mixture is separated into two phases, a nonpolar phase comprising nonpolar hydrocarbons and a polar phase comprising alkyl sulfates, alkyl disulfates, and fat acids. A rag-layer that forms between the nonpolar and polar phases comprising carbonaceous particulate material is removed by contact with an extraction reagent. This can be a slip stream comprising an etheric derivative of the olefinic feed and an oligomeric derivative of the feed which is withdrawn from a subsequent step the process. This forms a separate hydrocarbon phase which is then extracted. The sulfates are then hydrolyzed to form alcohol.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1994Date of Patent: April 4, 1995Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventors: Robert P. Adamski, George C. Blytas
