Folding Binder Frame Patents (Class 56/136)
  • Patent number: 5111644
Abstract: A mowing machine comprising a main frame has a plurality of driving units and intermediate pieces which are mounted alternately on a tie member. The tie member is under tension thereby pressing the driving units and the intermediate pieces together to provide a main frame which is substantially rigid. The driving units have cutting units with flexible hoods which are driven by a drive shaft through beveled gearing. The drive shaft is an elongated resilient rod of narrow diameter which is capable of substantial torsional displacement before its yield point is reached. The direction of rotation of each cutting unit can be reversed by removing the gear received on the driving shaft and turning it around.

  • Patent number: 5012634
Abstract: A cutterbar for a rotary mower includes a gear housing containing a series-parallel spur gear train coupled for driving cutting units spaced along the cutterbar. The gear housing, as viewed from an end, defines a cavity which is wedge-shaped in cross section with the deep part of the wedge being located at the rear of the cutterbar. As considered when the cutterbar is leveled from end-to-end and disposed for cutting crop at a relatively high level, a top wall of the cavity extends substantially horizontally and the spur gears contained within the cavity are positioned close to and parallel to the top wall so that a substantial volume is left below the gears for containing lubricant. A plurality of fore-and-aft extending, transversely spaced ribs are formed along a bottom wall of the housing at a level below the gearing whereby the ribs serve to prevent the lubricant from moving quickly towards a lower end of the cutterbar when the latter is working on a slope.

  • Patent number: 4838014
Abstract: An improved disc cutter rotor assembly for use in a disc cutterbar of the type utilizing a plurality of intermeshed gears to transfer rotational power is disclosed wherein the rotor assembly provides a low profile to facilitate the flow of crop material over the cutterbar, yet permits the individual components of the rotor assembly to be serviced and/or replaced. The hub and shaft are of welded construction and are rotatably mounted within a bearing housing affixed to the transmission casing for mounting a removable bearing assembly. The drive gear for the rotor assembly is splined onto the shaft and retained in place by a fastener and washer assembly to permit the drive gear to be removed from the shaft. A sealed hole in the bottom of the transmission casing permits access to the fastener and washer assembly to permit the drive gear to be removed from the shaft before removing the rotor assembly from the transmission casing.

  • Patent number: 4827703
Abstract: A mowing machine that extends laterally from a tractor and is an assembly of carrier parts, supporting and spacer housings, held together by one or two tensile bars. If there is only one tensile bar, it is received through the carrier parts at about the same level as the mower's drive sahft where the front of the supporting housing curves to form its bottom, such curve conforming to the radius of the tensile bar and defining a continuous internal groove therefor that conforms to the bar's curvature as seen in cross-section. If there are two tensile bars, the other is similarly situated in a continuous internal groove at the rear of the supporting housing about three to four times farther, however, from the drive shaft. External outwardly facing grooves in another embodiment are defined by supporting and spacer housings. For only one tensile bar, the groove extends from the bottom to the housings' center.
