The sheath has an overall diameter ranging from about 60 micrometers to about 650 micrometers. Despite its small diameter, the braided structure can be creep resistant and abrasion resistant while at the same time exhibiting low elongation, a high load at break, and high stiffness. The braided structure can be used in medical applications such as sutures, load bearing orthopedic applications, artificial tendons/ligaments, fixation devices, actuation cables, components for tissue repair, etc.

The photocatalytic fiber of the present invention contains a photocatalyst being attached to the fiber. The fiber is preferably having an aspect of forming a thread to which the photocatalyst being attached by spinning after dipping the fiber in a solution at least containing the photocatalyst, an aspect of forming the thread to which the photocatalyst being attached by dipping the fiber in the solution containing at least the photocatalyst after spinning, and an aspect wherein the photocatalyst is a photocatalytic apatite. The fabric of the present invention is characterized by using the photocatalytic fiber. The fabric product of the present invention is characterized by using the fabric.

    Abstract: Multifilamentary core yarns of brittle, high-modulus materials are partially encased in a “wrapper” of another material. The wrapped core yarn is then coated with an adhesive that remains tacky over time. The coated wrapped yarn can then be spooled and stored indefinitely; when it is desired to be used, the yarn can be pulled off the spool without “blocking”, that is, the presence of the wrapper precludes damage to the brittle filaments of the core yarn caused by filaments of adjacent strands of the yarn adhering to one another. The tacky surface allows the yarn to be disposed where desired against a substrate, and heat and pressure to be applied to ensure that it will remain in position. Various processes previously not feasible with brittle, high-modulus multifilamentary yarns can be practiced.

The obtained prestressing strand has the double coating portions only at the surface layer and sufficient flexibility and adhesion to concrete.
