Abstract: Glass compositions suitable for fiber forming having rare earth oxides (RE2O3) and glass fibers having a high modulus are disclosed. The glass composition may include SiO2 from about 44.5 to about 64 weight percent, Al2O3 from about 12 to about 32 weight percent, CaO from about 0.1 to about 15.5 weight percent, MgO from about 5 to about 22 weight percent, Fe2O3 less than 1 weight percent, TiO2 less than 2 weight percent, Na2O less than 3 weight percent, Y2O3 up to 12 weight percent, CeO2 up to 6 weight percent, ZnO up to 4 weight percent, and B2O3 less than 4.5 weight percent. The glass compositions can be used to form glass fibers and incorporated into various composites.

Abstract: Described herein are materials and methods useful in the field of insulation, including building materials, refrigeration, cryogenics, and shipping, amongst others. Advantageously, the provided materials and method provide low thermal conductivities and increased mechanical strength, allowing for efficient insulating in a diverse range of applications. The provided materials and methods include individual particles connected by a polymer network that links individual particles and may include hollow or evacuated capsules and various strengthening agents.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a tire cord fabric with tabbies located (1) at both ends of tire cord fabric roll which is used as reinforcement material in tire technology. The tire cord fabric rolls are tied together by splicing them at the tabby section and the mechanical and thermal properties of which are improved with basalt hybrid weft yarns (5). The objective of the present invention is to provide a tire cord fabric (1) with tabby section (4) having more improved features in terms of thermal endurance and mechanical features compared to basaltic fibers used instead of glass-cotton hybrid fibers.

Abstract: A fine denier poly(trimethylene arylate) spun drawn fiber is characterized by high denier uniformity. A process for preparing uniform fine denier yarns at spinning speeds of 4000 to 6000 m/min is further disclosed. The poly(trimethylene arylate) fiber hereof comprises 0.1 to 3% by weight of polystyrene dispersed therewithin. Fabrics prepared therefrom are also disclosed.

In some embodiments, the fiber threads include doped multi-walled carbon nanotubes, such as doped double-walled carbon nanotubes. In some embodiments, the carbon nanotube fibers are doped with various dopants, such as iodine and antimony pentafluoride. In various embodiments, the carbon nanotube fibers of the present invention can include a plurality of intertwined fiber threads that are twisted in a parallel configuration with one another. In some embodiments, the carbon nanotube fibers include a plurality of fiber threads that are tied to one another in a serial configuration. In some embodiments, the carbon nanotube fibers of the present invention are also coated with one or more polymers.

Abstract: The invention provides a spun yarn comprising recycled carbon fibre, and a method for the production thereof. The recycled carbon fibre comprises discontinuous carbon fibre and, optionally, continuous carbon fibre, and may be recycled from various sources, such as end-of- life waste and manufacturing waste. The yarn which is produced shows the required degree of strength and durability, and can be used in all conventional composite manufacturing operations where virgin yarn is currently employed, such as woven fabric manufacture, unidirectional fabric manufacture, filament winding, pultrusion and the like.

The method comprises locating the dragline rope in a die of a die-press, locating over the dragline rope a ferrule that is lined internally with a deformable material, and forcing the ferrule longitudinally through the die. An elastic element applicator is provided that is configured to move a section of a continuous strand of elastic element generally about a plane. A first web of material is conveyed in a first web moving direction such that the first web intersects the plane. Then, the applicator is operated to move the elastic element about the plane, thereby applying the section of elastic element onto the first web along a direction generally transverse to the web moving direction and such that the first web draws the continuous elastic strand from the elastic element applicator as the first web is conveyed away from the plane. The elastic element applicator may be in the form of a spin cylinder or bracket that is operated to spin the elastic element about the moving first web, thereby applying the elastic element on the first web.

Abstract: The invention concerns a roll of strip of elastomer material reinforced with parallel steel cords. The roll of strip differs from the prior art that it is intentionally not flat when unrolled: it has obtained a permanent preformation so as to take a helical shape when unwound. Such a strip is particularly useful for reinforcing substantially cylindrical objects such as tubes or pillars. Methods to produce such kind of strips are also presented.

Abstract: A water-ballasted molded plastic barrier system incorporates barrier segments wherein each segment employs a sawtooth reflective design, designed to prevent the tire of a vehicle, impacting the barrier, from climbing up the side of the barrier segment. Adjacent barrier segments are attached together using an interlocking knuckle design, having a lug pin connection system. Wire rope cable assemblies are internally molded into each barrier segment to create an impenetrable cable fence. The wire rope cable assemblies include steel bushings which are molded into the interlocking knuckles to further strengthen the barrier system.

Abstract: A connection for connecting steel cord ends to one another is described. The connection solves the problem of filaments that break off at the connection during handling of the cord. In the inventive connection a fixation section is introduced before or after the jointing section. The fixation section immobilises the filaments relative to one another. A method to make such a connection is also described. The connection and the method turn out to be extremely useful for connecting steel cords of the open type.

Abstract: A steel rope safety system includes at least one steel rope having at least one strand, and the at least one rope or at least one strand is compacted. Further, a method is provided for making a steel rope safety system comprising the step of providing at least two wires, the step of stranding the wires thereby forming a strand for a rope and the step of compacting the strand. A linear density of the at least one reinforcing cord is greater than or equal to 0.18 g/m and less than or equal to 4.0 g/m. A value of a breaking-stress integral of the at least one reinforcing cord is greater than or equal to 5,000 J/m3. In a two-wheeled vehicle, the at least one reinforcing cord in a tire for front-mounting may be distributed with a variable density while, in a tire for rear-mounting, the density may be constant.

Abstract: A fiber containing an eggshell membrane component. The fiber is produced by spinning using a solution containing the eggshell membrane component by employing an electrospinning method. A fiber assembly formed from the fiber obtained by employing the electrospinning method imitates a natural eggshell membrane, whereby sufficient air permeability is exhibited. Since the fiber assembly is also excellent in adherence to skin tissue of a human body and stypticity, the fiber assembly may be preferably used as a wound dressing or a cosmetic sheet.

Abstract: Nylon compositions prepared by the melt mixing of a nylon thermoplastic resin and the siloxane based amide are disclosed. The modified nylons are useful in applications requiring nylons with increased hydrophobicity.

Abstract: An oil-tempered wire for a cold-formed coil spring having a quality equivalent of or higher than a hot-formed coil spring is provided. A cold-formed coil spring made from the oil-tempered wire is also provided. Material used is the steel which contains, in weight percentage, 0.35 to 0.55% C, 1.8 to 3.0% Si, 0.5 to 1.5% Mn, 0.5 to 3.0% Ni, and 0.1 to 1.5% Cr. The ferrite fraction in the microscopic structure of this material is set to 50% or less. Hot rolled wire is cold drawn with a predetermined reduction of area, and a heat treatment using high frequency induction heating is conducted. It is preferable to set the maximum heating temperature between 900° C. to 1020° C. (favorably 950° C.) and holding time between 5 to 20 seconds. It is preferable to make the oil tempered material to have the grain size number of 9 or more, and the tensile strength from 1830 to 1980 MPa.

A knotless cord has a sleeve and a fibrous body inserted into the sleeve, wherein the sleeve and the fibrous body are connected to each other by applying tension in a longitudinal direction of the sleeve and then tightening the sleeve. Moreover, in the knotless cord a locking portion for preventing the fibrous body from slipping out of the sleeve is provided in at least two sections (first locking portion, second locking portion). Therefore, stress generated by applying tension is dispersed throughout the entire fibrous body, while preventing the fibrous body from slipping out of the sleeve, whereby stress concentration occurring in each locking portion is alleviated.

The double covered Lycra Soft yarn of this invention is characterized by being polyurethane based and double covered with heat treated nylon high speed textured yarn, in order to prevent twisting and to maintain elasticity after processing. According to the art of this invention, the Lycra Soft yarn can maintain elasticity and be protected from twist.

Abstract: The present invention provides a lyocell dipped cord prepared by dipping a lyocell raw cord comprising at least 2-ply lyocell multifilament in a dipping solution and curing the dipped cord, which gives a stress-strain curve exhibiting that (a) the lyocell dipped cord has an elongation of 1.2% or less at an initial stress of 1.0 g/d, and an initial modulus value of 80 to 200 g/d; (b) has an elongation of 6% or less in a stress region of 1.0 g/d to 4.0 g/d; and (c) has an elongation of 1% or more at a tensile strength of 4.0 g/d to the breaking point, as measured in the dried state. The lyocell dipped cord prepared according to the present invention can be used as industrial fibers, in particular, fibers for tire cords.

Abstract: The present invention provides a lyocell raw cord prepared from at least 2-ply lyocell multifilaments, which gives a stress-strain curve exhibiting that (a) the lyocell raw cord has an elongation of 1.5% or less at an initial stress of 1.0 g/d, and an initial modulus value of 50 to 100 g/d; (b) has an elongation of 7% or less in a stress region of 1.0 g/d to 4.0 g/d; and (c) has an elongation of 1% or more at a tensile strength of 4.0 g/d to the breaking point, as measured in the dried state. The lyocell raw cord prepared according to the present invention can be used as industrial fibers, in particular, fibers for tire cords.
