  • Patent number: 9663878
Abstract: A method is provided to operate an air jet spinning machine, having at least one spinning unit with a spinning nozzle for manufacturing yarn, in which a fiber strand is fed to the spinning nozzle through an inlet and is imparted a twist inside a vortex chamber of the spinning nozzle by means of a swirled air current so that a yarn is formed from the fiber strand. An additive is added with an additive dispenser to the spinning unit while the air jet spinning machine is operating and applied on the fiber strand or on sections of the spinning nozzle and/or the yarn. At least one physical parameter of the yarn is monitored by a sensor system wherein, based on a measured value supplied by the sensor system correlated with the parameter, it is determined whether and/or how much additive was applied.

Abstract: Intermittently colored yarns having an intermittent and random dye spacing pattern, and systems and methods of making the same, are disclosed. Such intermittently colored yarns exhibit higher quality and lower manufacturing costs over the known intermittently colored yarns. The intermittent coloring takes place while the yarn is in caterpillar form. Carpets made from such intermittently colored yarns exhibit enhanced aesthetics over carpets made from known intermittently colored yarns. Alternatively, a stain resist, colorless base dye, or bleaching agent can be applied in the same intermittent and random spacing pattern to the intermittently colored yarns prior to subsequent dyeing. This creates a mirror image like color effect to the resulting yarn.

  • Patent number: 4624102
Abstract: A method for reducing broken fibers on the surface of a carbon fiber bundle involves passing the yarn through a passage in a fluid jet which in turn is supplied with a rimming flow of liquid. When the fiber bundle contacts the liquid, some of the broken fibers snap off and others are twisted and unidirectionally cabled back into the fiber bundle.

  • Patent number: 4573314
Abstract: A yarn wetting device, particularly for a two-for-one twisting spindle assembly, has a reservoir and a porous member which has capillary action and over which yarn is drawn for the purpose of receiving wetting agent or the like which is fed from below by suction from the reservoir to the porous body. In order to ensure uniform transfer of the wetting agent, irrespective of the level of the wetting agent in the reservoir, a line system leads into the reservoir and has an opening which opens into the atmosphere above the reservoir and an opening located at a distance above the bottom of the reservoir, and the reservoir is sealed relative to the atmospheric pressure when the level of the wetting agent in the reservoir is above the bottom opening of the line system.

  • Patent number: 4419157
Abstract: A process and apparatus for filling multi-conductor cables, particularly a telecommunication cable with several insulated wires surrounded by a covering and a sheath, with a mixture of powders which expand with the absorption of moisture. The conductors are fed in spaced relation into the entrance of a casing having an interior, frusto-conical wall which decreases in diameter from its entrance to its exit. The exit is small in diameter compared to the entrance so that the conductors converge as they pass from the entrance to the exit. Intermediate the entrance and the exit, the conductors are subjected to the powders which are caused to follow a helicoidal course by a screw which directs them toward the exit. Due to the shape of the casing wall, the powders are forced toward the conductors.

  • Patent number: 4380891
Abstract: A device for feeding a liquid thread-treating medium to the thread in a double thread twisting machine has a wiping head of a wear-resistant material arranged in a housing and extending from below into an annular recess of the overflow plate and into the thread running plane. The wiping head has an opening in the top thereof which extends substantially parallel to the spindle axis and has an insert in the opening which induces a capillary action that transports the thread-treating medium from a supply pipeline to the upper port of the opening. The insert is a pin made of a rigid material and of noncylindrical cross section so that between the outer surface of the pin and the inner surface of the opening small gaps are formed which produce the capillary action.

  • Patent number: 4334404
Abstract: There is described a two-for-one twisting spindle having a supply receptacle for a lubricant arranged in a base of a protective pot, a region of an outer circumferential surface, of the protective pot, over which the revolving thread passes when the spindle is operating, communicating with the supply receptacle in such a way that lubricant is brought to the said region of the circumferential surface. Thereby the supply receptacle is in a stationary part of the spindle, so that lubricant content in the receptacle has no inertial effect on the running of the spindle. The arrangement enables consistent but not excessive wetting to be provided for the thread without the thread being subjected to undesirable stresses while the spindle is operating. In the arrangement shown, a protective pot 4 has a sidewall 5, over which thread 16 passes when the spindle is operating, and a base 7 having a cavity holding a supply of lubricant 10.
