  • Publication number: 20100275567
Abstract: A multi-layer yarn structure and a method for making the same are provided. The multi-layer yarn structure includes a core layer, a layer of noncircular fibers, and an outer layer. The core layer has a plurality of hydrophobic fibers. The noncircular fibers surround the core layer to form a middle layer. The outer layer surrounds the middle layer and has a plurality of hydrophilic fibers. The method spins different fibers into multi-layer yarn for making textile with a soft, smooth, and thick feel. By utilizing inherent characteristics of the multi-layer yarn structure, the textile may regulate moisture released from the human body and keep the body dry and comfort.

  • Patent number: 6550281
Abstract: A fiber (106) having low polarization mode dispersion is made by heating the end of a preform (100) with a furnace (101). The fiber is drawn from the heated end. The fiber passes between two rollers (102, 104). As the fiber passes therebetween, the angular tilt of each of the rollers is changed so that a spin is imparted to the fiber.

  • Patent number: 6324872
Abstract: Optical fiber is provided with a periodically reversing spin while the fiber is pulled through a melt zone. A cooled region of the fiber downstream from the melt zone passes between a pair of opposed elements. The opposed elements are moved so that surface regions engaging the fiber move in opposite lateral directions relative to one another, thus spinning the fiber about its axis. The lateral movement of the engaged surface portions is periodically reversed to reverse the spin direction. The opposed elements may include belts or rollers, which can be tilted to orientations oblique to the longitudinal direction of the fiber.

  • Patent number: 6076346
Abstract: To provide a twisting apparatus in which one of a pair of twisting rollers t1 and t2 is a hollow rubber roller t1, while the other is a hard cylindrical roller t2 in which a rubber band t16 is installed. Twisting efficiency is improved compared to the conventional twisting roller both comprising hollow rubber rollers. Thus, by applying the present invention to a spinning apparatus for manufacturing spun yarn from a fiber set, the spinning speed of the spun yarn can be increased and the spinning range extended.

  • Patent number: 6041585
Abstract: To prevent yarn from being cut when an operating spinning machine stops, thereby preventing subsequent re-activation from being affected. In a spinning machine for manufacturing yarn by passing a fiber bundle that exits a draft apparatus 1 through a spinning nozzle 2 injecting a swirling air current and then through a twisting apparatus 3 that twists the fiber bundle in a direction reverse to that of the swirling air current, each spinning unit is driven independently, and the draft apparatus 1 can be decelerated or accelerated with the speed ratio of each pair of rollers being maintained. When the spinning is stopped or activated, the draft apparatus 1 and the twisting apparatus 3 simultaneously decelerate or accelerate so as to be simultaneously stopped or activated, and in response to this operation, air injection from the spinning nozzle 2 stops or starts.

  • Patent number: 5899056
Abstract: In a spinning process for producing a yarn, fiber material in the form of at least one sliver is opened to a fibrous veil consisting of single fibers, and is deposited on an air-permeable suctioned collecting surface. The speed of the fibrous veil transported on the collecting surface is preferably not higher than the speed of the drawn off yarn. Before reaching the yarn formation line located on the collecting surface, the fibrous veil is divided into a plurality of fiber accumulations and thereby pre-twisted to strands. The position and travelling direction of the strands on the collecting surface is defined by guiding edges of suction slits. The individual strands are guided off transversely to the yarn formation line, whereby the extent of the pre-twist and the extent of the transport force is determined by the angle of the strands to the yarn formation line. Pre-twisted strands are wound around each other along the yarn formation line so that a type of ply-twisted yarn arises.

  • Patent number: 5699661
Abstract: This invention is concerned with a spinning apparatus with an arrangement of a spinning nozzle which generates a rotating air current positioned close to the front roller and a pair of false twist units having hollow cylindrical rollers formed from elastic material which are positioned down stream from that spinning nozzle. As contact surfaces are formed that nip the fiber bundle by contacting the hollow cylindrical rollers having elastic properties, the fiber bundle can be reliably nipped in conjunction with the elasticity and the centrifugal force of the hollow cylindrical rollers. Even when driving the false twist apparatus at high speed a sufficient false twist can be imparted, a strong delivery power and unwinding power can be applied to the fiber bundle, and not only can high speed spinning be achieved, but also a strong, uniform spun yarn with little hairiness can be manufactured.

  • Patent number: 5487262
Abstract: A steel cord, having steel filaments twisted so as to have a final twist pitch, is manufactured by plastically deforming the steel filaments by overtwisting the steel cord to a twist pitch which is smaller than the final twist pitch, untwisting the steel cord to the final twist pitch, further untwisting the steel cord to a twist pitch which is greater than the final twist pitch, and twisting the steel cord again to the final twist pitch. The first two steps (i.e., overtwisting and untwisting) are done under a first tension and the third and fourth steps (i.e., further untwisting and twisting) are done under a second tension which is lower than half of the first tension.

  • Patent number: 5092117
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an optical multi-fiber cable element provided with a second sheathing by extruding a loose secondary sheathing around a fiber bundle and stretching the fibers a desired extra length with respect to the sheathing, the fibers being guided in such a manner that the position of the fibers varies continuously during stretching. To produce an untwisted cable element and avoid variation in the fiber length, the secondary sheathing together with its fiber bundle is twisted around its axis after the extrusion or the sheathing to vary the twisting position of the fiber bundle as the sheathing and fibers approach the stretching step.

  • Patent number: 5033204
Abstract: The dehydration process substantially consists in causing the fabric in rope form to continuously advance between at least two pairs of pressing rolls, with it being simultaneously submitted to a false twisting. The false twist causes a wringing of the fabric with the consequent partial evacuation of the liquid the fabric is sodden with. In order to improve the dehydration, a centrifugation of the twisted fabric is provided. The apparatus substantially comprises a twisting organ capable of giving a false twist to the running fabric. The twisting organ can be constituted by a revolving structure capable of causing the fabric to run along a path outside its advancement axis, with the fabric thereby simultaneously undergoing a twist and a centrifugation.

  • Patent number: 4961307
Abstract: This invention provides methods by which any staple fiber or continuous filament fiber can be stretch processed similiar to continuous filament fiber stretch processing methods heretofore used, in that the fiber's internal molecular structure is oriented along the fiber strand axis, except substantially twisting as well as substantial stretching forces are employed. With only the simple continuous and simultaneous application of a single dynamic stretching stress, and a single dynamic twisting force, that is correct and precisely controlled relative to each other and to its input flow rate, every individual fiber is effectively and uniformly stretch processed. Such individual fiber's net strength properties gain and desirable quality characteristics improvement as well as their continuous cross-sectional uniformity are substantially enhanced for their greater utility, as are fabrics and other products produced from such treated fiber.
