  • Patent number: 5419952
Abstract: Denim fabric is made from warp yarn which is at least 30% novelty cotton yarn having irregularly spaced effects (e.g. slubs) about one-half inch to two inches in length. The cotton novelty yarn is made by separating cotton sliver into cotton fibers, and acting on the cotton fibers with a negative wire combing roll, and then twisting the cotton fibers into the cotton novelty yarn. The negative wire combing roll has a tooth angle of about -0.01 to -15.degree. (e.g. about -2.degree.). The novelty cotton yarn is combined with at least 10% conventional novelty yarn or non-slub open end or ring spun yarn and made into a warp of about 54-100 ends per inch, and may be ring dyed (with indigo, vat, sulphur, pigment or reactive dye) so that the core of the yarn remains white. The warp is woven with a filling yarn to produce a denim fabric with a weight of about 5 oz. -17 oz. per sq. yd. having the weave and yarn size selected so that a tight construction is provided which highlights the slubs.

  • Patent number: 5406783
Abstract: A rotor type open-end spinning frame spins a yarn from a fiber bundle formed from unraveled fibers at a fiber collecting section while applying a twist to the fiber bundle during normal spinning, and which pieces the fiber bundle to a standard thread supplied to the fiber collecting section during yarn piecing. The spinning frame has a rotatable outer rotor which has an inner wall with a fiber collecting section. A conduit member is fixed opposite the open-end of the outer rotor and induct the fiber bundle and the standard thread therethrough. An inner rotor is disposed coaxially to and rotatable in the outer rotor. The inner rotor rotates independently of the outer rotor during both normal spinning and yarn piecing. A passage in the inner rotor communicates with the conduit member and guides the fiber bundle from the fiber collecting section to the conduit member during yarn spinning.

A sliver opened by the combing roller is fed to the interior of the rotor through the inlet member. Since the rotor and the inlet member rotate reversely to each other, the fibers are evenly distributed on an inner surface of the rotor. An intermediate yarn drawn out from the rotor is supplied to the air nozzle under an overfeeding condition, whereby a good fasciating effect is imparted to the resultant yarn by a vortex. Prior to feeding the yarn to the air nozzle, the yarn may be drafted between two pairs of rollers. The apparatus is easy to maintain because a roller drafting means having an apron which rapidly wears due to high-speed processing is not utilized.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for spinning a modified fasciated yarn at a high production rate featuring a combination of open-end spinning and fasciated yarn spinning. A sliver is opened by a combing roller and deposited as a fiber layer on a fiber collecting surface of a drum rotor rotating at a high speed. Thereafter, the fiber layer is drawn off from the fiber collecting surface as a continuous fiber bundle by a central rotor rotating coaxially with the drum rotor at a faster speed. During the drawing-off operation, the fiber bundle is flattened to a ribbon form by making contact to a deflector and is subjected to a vortex within an air twisting nozzle mounted on the central rotor to form a resultant yarn. Abstract: An open-end spinning method and an apparatus wherein a flow of discrete fibers is supplied to a fiber spreading element by which they are spread over the entire periphery of an inner fiber deposit surface of a drum where a fibrous layer is continuously created. Fibers are successively withdrawn from the fibrous layer by taking off the open end of yarn and rotating it about its axis, due to a twisting moment acting on the yarn, such twisting moment being created in a region beyond the drum axis. The yarn can be given an additional twist by causing its open end to revolve about the axis of the drum. The invention enables the attainment of a high degree of the so-called cyclic fiber doubling in the spinning process, a high productivity at a relative low peripheral velocity of the operating elements of the spinning device, and the possibility of manufacturing yarns of various parameters and characteristics in one and the same spinning unit.
