  • Patent number: 4584833
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for emergency fiber supply to a spinning unit in an open-end spinning machine. According to the invention, a sensing unit controls an electromagnetic coupling and fiber supply device, such that a break in the yarn is rapidly detected and the fiber supply is immediately disengaged, even if the conventional thread breakage detector fails.A sensing unit is disposed in that portion of the wall of a cover that extends into the spinning rotor interior. It is adapted to respond to the excess accumulation of unspun fibers and/or an undue increase in temperature by disconnecting the electromagnetic fiber supply coupling via the thread breakage detector circuit to which it is connected. The sensing unit can be a pressure sensitive microswitch, a bimetallic relay, a thermistor, or a combination of these elements.

  • Patent number: 4570429
Abstract: A device attached to a spinning or twisting machine, designed to monitor the integrity of two threads merging under tension into a yarn, has a carrier swingable about a horizontal axis and provided with a thread guide, such as a pair of parallel pins, bracketing the yarn downstream of the merger point. A rupture of either thread lets the carrier rotate, e.g. by gravity, from an unstable normal position by half a turn into a stable off-normal position to impede the advance of the remaining intact thread whereby the latter also breaks. Such action, however, is prevented when the yarn is under reduced tension, as during shutdown or startup of the machine, by a locking mechanism arresting the carrier in its normal position. The locking mechanism may include an electromagnet whose winding can form part of a circuit signaling the displacement of the carrier into its off-normal position in response to a thread break.

Abstract: An apparatus for detecting an erroneously inserted empty bobbin is disposed on a spinning frame which is provided with an automatic doffing and donning apparatus and a conveyor having empty bobbin supporting pegs mounted thereon. The detecting apparatus photoelectrically or electromechanically detects whether or not an empty bobbin is correctly inserted onto the corresponding empty bobbin supporting peg based on the fact that an incorrectly inserted bobbin inclines backwards and projects upwards. When the incorrectly inserted bobbin is detected, an alarm is actuated in order to notify an operator in charge of the spinning frame of the same.

  • Patent number: 4330094
Abstract: There is measured the length of a thread withdrawn overhead from a spinning cop or from a yarn bobbin. In order to circumvent the fault sources caused by slip and/or thread elongation there is generated a signal which periodically varies in accordance with the movement of the thread release or detachment point at the spinning cop or at the yarn bobbin, as the case may be, and there are counted the number of cycles of the fundamental frequency of this signal. The thread length is obtained by multiplication of the counted number of cycles by the constant thread length of two successive winding layers for spinning cops or yarn bobbins of the same origin and the same thread. The periodic signal can be derived from the thread withdrawal force or from the number of revolutions of the detachment point. The method is particularly suitable when rewinding a number of spinning cops on to a cross-wound bobbin.

  • Patent number: 4311916
Abstract: A travelling scanning apparatus for successively checking the working conditions at the spinning position of a ring spinning machine is enabled, in order to determine whether a yarn breakage has occurred at a spinning position, and, in the affirmative case, whether there prevails a danger of damage due to lap-up formation on a roll of the drafting arrangement. Using a yarn feeler first the presence of a normally spun yarn is detected. If no yarn is present, the broken yarn suction nozzle, which is used for eliminating the fibres not spun in, is lowered from its normal working position into a scanning position, and an optimum fibre stream is obtained between the delivery rolls of the drafting arrangement and the lowered nozzle for scanning using a second feeler. In case of non-presence of this fibre stream, that is in case possible lap-up formation, a roving supply interrupting device is activated and the roving supply to the drafting arrangement is interrupted.

  • Patent number: 4294065
Abstract: Apparatus and method for facilitating maintenance of a data system gathering information regarding the operating conditions of ring spinning machines in a textile mill wherein at least one traveling unit, supported for travel along a predetermined path for traversing one or more ring spinning machines, carries detectors for monitoring ends of strand material normally being formed by traversed machines, additional sensors are provided on each machine for signalling operating characteristics of the machines, and processors operatively communicating with the sensors and responsive to signals from the sensors determines from such signals the operating conditions of respective ones of the machines. In accordance with this invention, malfunctions of defined portions of the data system are identified and an output display of information characteristic of the nature and machine location of malfunctions is generated.

  • Patent number: 4280321
Abstract: A device is disclosed, as an attachment to a spinning, or a doubling frame, for stopping the rotation of the spindle and the sliver feed whenever a sliver or a thread breaks and for giving, at the same time, a warning signal (e.g. a luminous signal) to a watching operator. The device comprises a thread feeling whisker connected to a circuit which controls electromagnetic clutches connected to the spindle, and the spindle braking and stopping mechanism is connected by a flexible cable to a sliver-pinching press so that as soon as the spindle is being braked and stopped the sliver is pinched and sliver feed is discontinued. The electric circuit also comprises an indicator lamp.

  • Patent number: 4280322
Abstract: A textile yarn processing machine, such as a two-for-one twister or the like, having respective yarn processing stations is provided with an improved yarn monitoring system for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station in response to the absence of a yarn running therethrough, as for example, upon the occurrence of a yarn breakage. The improved yarn monitoring system of the present invention is constructed generally as follows: A yarn sensor is constructed and mounted so as to be held in an operative setting by yarn tension when the yarn is running in normal operating condition and to be released in the event of the release of such tension, as upon a yarn breakage. A switching mechanism is provided for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station, and means is provided for operably connecting the yarn sensor to the switching mechanism for actuating the switching mechanism upon the release of the yarn sensor from its operative setting.

  • Patent number: 4267554
Abstract: At each work position of a textile machine having a plurality of work positions driven by a common drive unit (warper's creels, winder or spooling and spinning machines, or circular knitting machines, for example), an electronic monitor device is provided which is responsive to thread travel. An indicator device is associated with each travel monitor and comprises a storage element and an indicator connected thereto, for the permanent indication of a thread breakage. To prevent false indications of thread breakage when the machine is stopped, a control signal is generated when the machine's drive unit is operating. Each indicator device further includes an electronic switch responsive to the control signal to insure the storage unit can be set to indicate a thread breakage only during operation of the drive unit.
