Abstract: The present invention proposes a chiral diene ligand, a fabrication method thereof and applications thereof. The chiral diene ligand is a bicyclo[2.2.1] diene ligand having structural specificity and high stability, which favors the bicyclo[2.2.1] diene ligand to take part in asymmetric transformations, particularly an asymmetric addition reaction involving a metal catalyst in a basic environment. Most of the products of the reactions implemented by the chiral diene ligands of the present invention have superior optical activity. The method of the present invention comprises a first oxidation step, a saponification step, a second oxidation step, a deprotonation step, and a cross-coupling step. The chiral diene ligand of the present invention is very suitable to be used in the fabrication or synthesis of various chemicals and medical products.

Abstract: A flame retardant brominated rubber polymeric composition, wherein the composition can include ethylene propylene ethylidene norbornene rubber polymer and from 12 weight percent to 55 weight percent of bromine covalently bonded thereto. The method can include dissolving a liquid ethylene propylene ethylidene norbornene rubber polymer in hexane with myrcene, forming the composition. The method can include dissolving ethylene propylene ethylidene norbornene rubber polymer in hexane, forming a solution, and adding bromine, or blending N-bromo-succinimide into the solution, forming a suspension. The method can include heating the suspension and stifling the suspension until all bromine in the N-bromo-succinimide has reacted with the ethylene propylene ethylidene norbornene rubber polymer, forming the composition as a solid in a liquid. The method can include removing the liquid from the solid, and flashing off the hexane from the liquid to extract the composition.

Abstract: This invention is related to heteroatom containing diamondoids (i.e., “heterodiamondoids”) which are compounds having a diamondoid nucleus in which one or more of the diamondoid nucleus carbons has been substitutionally replaced with a noncarbon atom. These heteroatom substituents impart desirable properties to the diamondoid. In addition, the heterodiamondoids are functionalized affording compounds carrying one or more functional groups covalently pendant therefrom. This invention is further related to polymerizable functionalized heterodiamondoids. In a preferred aspect of this invention the diamondoid nuclei are triamantane and higher diamondoid nuclei. In another preferred aspect, the heteroatoms are selected to give rise to diamondoid materials which can serve as n- and p-type materials in electronic devices can serve as optically active materials.

  • Patent number: 6746728
Abstract: A tetrahydronaphthalene derivative represented by the general formula (I) and a liquid crystal composition containing the same. A compound represented by the general formula (I) shows superior liquid crystallinity and co-solubility with conventional liquid crystal compounds and compositions. Furthermore, addition of such a compound enables the threshold voltage to be significantly reduced with almost no deleterious effect on the responsiveness. In addition, a compound of the present invention can also be easily produced industrially, is colorless, and is chemically stable. Consequently, liquid crystal compositions containing such a compound are extremely useful as liquid crystals, and are particularly suitable for liquid crystal displays requiring a wide operating temperature range, low voltage driving and a high response speed.
