Abstract: Organo-lithium compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group of up to 5 carbon atoms, R' is either hydrogen or an alkyl group of up to 5 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 2 to 10. These bifunctional organo-lithium compounds are prepared without the use of any polar or complexing agent and are useful as polymerization initiators for the production of block copolymers.

Abstract: Highly desirable organic liquid soluble multifunctional lithium containing initiators are prepared by reacting an organo lithium compound with an organic compound containing at least one group of the configuration 1,3-bis(1-phenylethenyl)benzene. Such initiators can be prepared in the absence of polar solvents and are very desirable for the polymerization of dienes such as butadiene to a desirable 1,4 configuration.

Abstract: A process is described for providing clear extended compositions of essential oils which comprises a composition of an essential oil and an extender material miscible with said essential oil which does not appreciably alter the aroma of the essential oil insofar as its quality or strength is concerned, the proportion of essential oil in extender material being from about 70% up to about 99%, said extender material being a mixture of (A) a dimerization product of an alpha methyl styrene or a methyl or other C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 lower alkyl homologue thereof or mixture of same, and (B) one or more "dimerization" (or "coupling") products of one or more terpenes which are monocyclic and have two carbon-carbon double bonds or which are bicyclic and have one carbon-carbon double bond or one or more hydrogenated derivatives thereof or mixtures of same.

Abstract: An inclusion compound comprising meta-cyclophane of the formula ##STR1## and at least one benzene derivative included therein. And a process for separating an isomer containing a substituent at least at the 1- and 4-positions from a mixture containing isomers of a benzene derivative, which comprises contacting the meta-cyclophane with the mixture containing isomers of a benzene derivative thereby to form an inclusion compound in which an isomer containing a substituent at least at the 1- and 4-positions is included in the meta-cyclophane, then separating the inclusion compound from the mixture, and thereafter separating the isomer from the inclusion compound.
