  • Publication number: 20150141730
Abstract: A method for separating an alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon, the method having a step of adding a first diluent and an extractant having a superacid to a mixture comprising the alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon and one or more isomers thereof to carry out an acid-base extraction to thereby form a complex of the alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon with the superacid, and thereafter separating the complex from the mixture, and a step of adding an eliminating agent having a relative basicity in a range of 0.06 to 10 with respect to the alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a second diluent to the complex, and carrying out complex exchange of the alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon for the eliminating agent to thereby separate the alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon from the complex.

  • Patent number: 5122236
Abstract: A process for removing dimethyl ether (DME) and methanol impurities from C.sub.4 hydrocarbon stream without substantial loss of C.sub.4 hydrocarbons by fractionating a C.sub.4 hydrocarbon stream containing DME and methanol at low levels, e.g., less than 5 wt. % to produce an overhead of about 20 to 40 volume % of the C.sub.4 stream, condensing the overhead, contacting the condensed overhead with about 1 to 5 volumes of water, thereby removing a portion of the DME and methanol from the C.sub.4 stream, returning substantially all of the C.sub.4 stream, except the small amount solubilized in the water, to the fractionation and flashing the solubilized DME and hydrocarbons from the water. The fractionation and extraction are preferably carried out at elevated pressures, e.g., 200 to 300 psig to avoid refrigeration of the overhead condensation. The flashing of the DME and hydrocarbons is carried out by reducing the pressure on the water, e.g. atmospheric pressure at a temperature in the range of 20.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4409421
Abstract: Pure tert.-olefins are prepared from mixtures of hydrocarbons, which contain at least one such tert.-olefin, by reaction with an alkanol to give the corresponding alkyl tert.-alkyl ethers, and subsequent cleavage of these ethers back to the corresponding pure tert.-olefins and the alkanol, and the separation of the pure tert.-olefin from the alkanol. For this, the alkanol present after the cleavage of the ether is separated from the tert.-olefin to the extent of 60 to 99% by weight by distillation, and the residual amount of alcohol in the olefin fraction is removed by adsorption from this fraction onto a synthetic ion exchanger as an absorber resin. The admixture of the alkanol to the mixture of hydrocarbons with at least one tert.-olefin is carried out partly by using the alkanol fraction arising from the separating off of the pure tert.-olefin, and partly by desorption of the alkanol from the absorber resin with the aid of the mixture of hydrocarbons containing at least 1 tert.-olefin.

  • Patent number: 4353840
Abstract: In processes in which liquid sorbents that are solutions in an aromatic hydrocarbon or halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon of a bimetallic salt complex having the generic formula M.sub.I M.sub.II X.sub.n.Aromatic, wherein M.sub.I is a Group I-B metal, M.sub.II is a Group III-A metal, X is halogen, n is the sum of the valences of M.sub.I and M.sub.II, and Aromatic is a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon or halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon are used to separate complexible ligands from a gas feedstream that comprises an olefin having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, alkylation of the aromatic hydrocarbon or halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon is inhibited by incorporating in the liquid sorbent from 8.5 mole percent to 30 mole percent, based on the Group I-B metal in the liquid sorbent, of an amine-aluminum chloride adduct, such as ammonia-aluminum chloride adduct or pyridine-aluminum chloride adduct.

  • Patent number: 4154584
Abstract: Hot gases containing naphthalene and tar together with the possible inclusion of solids are contacted in a spray tower with water to cool the gases. A naphthalene extraction agent, such as tar, is vigorously admixed with water withdrawn from the spray tower. The admixture is separated in a settling tank from which water is obtained and recycled to the spray tower for cooling further quantities of gases. Solids, gas condensate and tar enriched with naphthalene are separately removed from the settling tank.

  • Patent number: 4153630
Abstract: An inclusion compound comprising meta-cyclophane of the formula ##STR1## and at least one benzene derivative included therein. And a process for separating an isomer containing a substituent at least at the 1- and 4-positions from a mixture containing isomers of a benzene derivative, which comprises contacting the meta-cyclophane with the mixture containing isomers of a benzene derivative thereby to form an inclusion compound in which an isomer containing a substituent at least at the 1- and 4-positions is included in the meta-cyclophane, then separating the inclusion compound from the mixture, and thereafter separating the isomer from the inclusion compound.
