One-way Clutch Between The Movable Guide, An Impeller, Turbine Or A Second Movable Guide Patents (Class 60/345)
  • Publication number: 20090313984
Abstract: Improvements in a transmission is provided for transferring power from a power source to a work unit. The pump transfers energy received from the power source into a fluid or gas. The first turbine is fixed to output shaft, and a plurality of additional turbines are fixed on either one-way overrunning clutches or multi-disc clutches and these clutches are fixed to the output shaft and after each turbine is a multi-valves that discharges the fluid or gas. After all of the multi-stage turbines a first planetary gear set connects the transmission to the vehicle or work unit. The second planetary gear set is located between the last turbine and the first planetary gear set. During braking the planetary gear set reverses turning direction of the turbines and convert the turbines into pumps where they will pump low pressure fluid to a high pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 6568180
Abstract: A torque converter including a one-way clutch for supporting a stator radially on a fixed member in such a manner that the stator is rotatable in one direction, and a pair of thrust bearings for supporting the stator axially between a pump impeller and a turbine runner, wherein the diameters of the one-way clutch and both of the thrust bearings are different, and the thrust bearings do not axially overlap at least side bearings of the one-way clutch. With this arrangement, thrust force is not applied to the side bearings, and thus, the side bearings are thinner than conventional side bearings. Accordingly, the area radially inside of the stator in the torque converter is axially shortened.

  • Patent number: 6553758
Abstract: A freewheel unit intended especially for the stator of a hydrodynamic torque converter, allows first and second elements to rotate relative to each other around a rotational axis essentially in only one direction. A locking element carrier extends in the circumferential direction around the rotational axis and comes at least one first locking element which extends away from this carrier toward the first element in a first circumferential direction. At least one first locking element can come to rest against at least one blocking surface provided on the first element to prevent any relative rotation between the first element and the locking element carrier in one direction of relative rotation.

Abstract: In a torque converter comprised of three major rotating elements, namely a pump impeller formed integral with a converter cover, a turbine runner to which a driving power is transmitted through a working fluid from the pump impeller, and a stator disposed between the pump impeller and the turbine runner, the stator is supported on a transmission case via a one-way clutch and has a plurality of stator blades. In order to balance the enhanced vehicle's startability and improved fuel economy at idle, the ratio W/D of a stator-blade axial length W to a torque-converter nominal diameter D is set to satisfy a predetermined inequality 0.030≦W/D≦0.052.

  • Patent number: 6484854
Abstract: A torque converter includes a turbine impeller integrally connected to a pump impeller, a side-cover having a boss and covering the turbine impeller, and a turbine shaft extending through the boss and connected to the turbine impeller. A radial bearing and a one-way clutch are disposed axially adjacent to each other between the boss of the side-cover and the turbine shaft. The radial bearing serves to retain the boss and the turbine shaft concentrically, and the one-way clutch connects the turbine shaft and the side-cover to each other, when a back load is applied to the turbine shaft. Therefore, a load received by a clutch element of the one-way clutch such as a sprag between the turbine shaft and the side-cover is equalized. Thus, when a back load is applied to the turbine shaft, a slipping between the turbine impeller and the pump impeller is prevented, thereby providing a good engine brake effect.
