  • Patent number: 11865355
Abstract: This application discloses configurations for arranging transducer arrays on a person's head to impose tumor treating fields (TTFields) in the brain at field strengths that are as uniform as possible throughout the entire brain. In some embodiments, L-shaped sets of electrodes are positioned near the right and left ears, each with a horizontal arm above the ear and a vertical arm behind the ear. Optionally, these embodiments may be combined with a second pair of electrodes positioned on top of the head and behind the neck. In other embodiments, one pair of electrodes is positioned above the right ear and on the left/rear portion of the neck; and a second pair of electrodes is positioned above the left ear and on the right/rear portion of the neck. These configurations improve the uniformity of the electric fields imposed throughout the brain, and are particularly useful for preventing and/or treating metastases.

Abstract: Current cancer treatments such as surgery, radiation and chemotherapy have significant side-effects for the patients. New treatments are being developed to reduce these side-effects while giving doctors alternative methods to treat patients. This invention introduces a new method for treatment of malignant tumors including brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer. The method uses low-power RF wave to disrupt and kill cancer cells during mitosis resulting in shrinking the size of solid tumors. Direction of polarization of the electric field of the RF wave relative to the axis of division of the cancer cells has an impact on the ability of the RF wave in disrupting mitosis and killing the cancer cells. Since the orientation of the cancer cells in a tumor are random a method is needed to change the orientation of the applied RF wave spatially with time to maximize elimination of the cancer cells.

Abstract: In illustrative implementations of this invention, interferential stimulation is precisely directed to arbitrary regions in a brain. The target region is not limited to the area immediately beneath the electrodes, but may be any superficial, mid-depth or deep brain structure. Targeting is achieved by positioning the region of maximum envelope amplitude so that it is located at the targeted tissue. Leakage between current channels is greatly reduced by making at least one of the current channels anti-phasic: that is, the electrode pair of at least one of the current channels has a phase difference between the two electrodes that is substantially equal to 180 degrees. Pairs of stimulating electrodes are positioned side-by-side, rather than in a conventional crisscross pattern, and thus produce only one region of maximum envelope amplitude. Typically, current sources are used to drive the interferential currents.

Abstract: Disclosed is a dual phase, multi-frequency, electromagnetic generator that creates electromagnetic fields having a first phase on a first side of said electromagnetic generator and electromagnetic fields having a second phase on an opposite side of said electromagnetic generator. In addition, gaseous emission tubes generate light frequency signals on each side of the electromagnetic generator. Tesla coils are disposed at least partially within the cone of a conically shaped transmission coil to achieve a high degree of coupling between the conically shaped transmission coils and the Tesla coils. Sparks gaps are used to create a fast rise time signal, which creates multiple frequencies.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method to increase blood microcirculation in tissue, using the pairs of Helmholtz coils with different frequencies; shape and amplitude of the magnetic field were built covering this tissue. A Giant Magnetoresistance Sensor or Laser Doppler flow meter sensor is used to determine a feedback from the tissue where the magnetic field is applied. The method includes calibration of the sensors and a special time protocol for the magnetic field to identify the maximum field effect for increasing blood microcirculation. This device includes the Helmholtz coils to apply the alternating magnetic field, a giant magnetoresistance sensor to measure feedback after applying the alternating magnetic field, a power amplifier for the Helmholtz coils and the giant magnetoresistance sensor, a data acquisition box, a virtual function generator and a virtual oscilloscope all of which are connected to communicate with a computer.

Abstract: Provided herein are embodiments of a Quadruple Butterfly Coil (QBC) configuration having enhanced focality for stimulation of specific areas of a brain for therapeutic treatment. Finite element simulations were conducted for the QBC, the QBC with a single shield, and the QBC with a double shield. The stimulation profiles for these coil configurations were assessed with 50 anatomically realistic MRI derived head models. The coils were positioned on the vertex and the scalp over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex to stimulate the brain. Computer modeling of the coils was performed to determine volume of stimulation, maximum electric field, location of maximum electric field, and area of stimulation across all 50 head models for both coils.
