Patent number: 8403870Abstract: A portable, self-contained compression device is wearable by a person for applying intermittent compression on a limb of the person. The compression device comprises a sleeve having a longitudinal axis and adapted for placement on the limb. The device includes an actuator assembly on the sleeve comprising a flexible shaft operably connected to the sleeve and extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The shaft is flexible to allow for conformance of the shaft to the limb when the sleeve is on the limb. The actuator assembly also comprises an actuator for rotating the flexible shaft in a first direction to constrict the sleeve to apply compression on the limb and for rotating the flexible shaft or allowing the flexible shaft to rotate in a second direction to relax constriction of the sleeve to relieve compression on the limb. Springs or elastic sections may be used to impart sequential, gradient compression on the limb.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2009Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Covidien LPInventor: Mark A. Patent number: 8043237Abstract: A massaging device includes a support member, a massaging member movably mounted on the support member, two opposite connecting straps connected with the massaging member respectively, two massaging belts each connected with a respective one of the connecting straps, a drive member mounted on the support member and provided with a rotation shaft, and an eccentric member rotatable with the rotation shaft and provided with an eccentric shaft to drive the massaging member to move relative to the support member. Thus, the massaging member is movable to massage the user's back reciprocally, and the two massaging belts are movable to massage the user's body reciprocally, so that the massaging device can be used to massage the user's body exactly and completely.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2008Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Inventor: Dong-Her Wu

Patent number: 7883484Abstract: A belt exercising and massaging device includes a cushion, and a massaging belt unit mounted on the cushion and including two massaging belts each extending from a surface of the cushion and each movable relative to the cushion. Thus, the massaging belt unit is operated to drive the massaging belts to move and swing rightward and leftward so as to provide a massaging effect to a user. In addition, the massaging belts surround the user's body in a planar manner so that the force applied by the massaging belts is distributed on the user's body smoothly and evenly without producing an excessive vibration and a stress concentration, thereby providing a comfortable sensation to the user, and thereby preventing the user's body from being hurt.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2007Date of Patent: February 8, 2011Inventor: Dong-Her Wu

Patent number: 7232976Abstract: A mouse pad includes a body with planar top and bottom surfaces and a cavity intercalated therebetween that extends between opposed body ends. A rotatable flange has a dome shape for fitting within a user's palm. The flange is offset from a center of the body, has a bottom section conjoined to the body top surface, and is seated adjacent to a proximal body edge. The flange has a top section rotatably conjoined to the bottom section. The bottom section has a greater diameter than the top section for effectively. A mechanism is included for heating the flange that is connected to the flange top section and includes a controller conjoined to the body. A mechanism is included for oscillating the flange so that the flange tilts side-to-side and against a bottom surface of an operator wrist. The heating mechanism and the oscillating mechanism are independently and simultaneously operable.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2006Date of Patent: June 19, 2007Inventor: Dino A. Catalano

Patent number: 6241695Abstract: An apparatus and method for alleviating excessive pressure development on a body area are provided. The apparatus is preferably embodied in a cushion, and includes a bottom surface and a top surface which is spaced from the bottom surface and has a plurality of channels formed therethrough. A compressible inner layer is disposed between the top and bottom surfaces, and a plurality of elongate, inflexible members are supported by the inner layer and are disposed at least partially within the channels. The members have first ends that extend at least partially through the channels to project beyond the top surface, where the members are located at a neutral position in the absence of pressure. In operation, pressure applied to the first ends causes the members to be displaced axially along the channels away from the neutral position and toward the bottom surface without deformation.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Inventor: Reza R. Dabir

Patent number: 5820573Abstract: A massage device disclosed consists of a rigid flat base (30), which when configured with contoured modules (34, 36, 38) and rigid pressure nibs (10, 12, 14) or blades (20, 24, 26, 28) contours the length of an adult human body. The device operates by arranging the massage elements including buttocks, back, shoulder, and neck modules with pressure nibs or blades to match the contoured surface of the backside of person. The person then lies upward facing on the device with massage pressure applied across the entire body for the desired therapeutic effect. The device includes adjustments for body size and shape and therapeutic intensities according to pain relief requirements.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1996Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Inventor: Grace Marie Ramos
