Abstract: An absorbent article having longitudinal cuffs of improved structure is disclosed. The improved cuffs may be elasticized by a plurality of elastic strands that are substantially greater in number, closer in spacing, lower in pre-strain, and lower in decitex, or any combination of these, as compared with those in conventional articles. This combination of features results in ruffles or gathers of cuff material joined to the elastic strands that are substantially greater in machine-direction frequency and substantially lesser in z-direction amplitude, than those in conventional articles. As a result, the cuff structure lies more closely and evenly against the wearer's skin, has an improved, more cloth-like appearance, provides improved gasketing, and provides improved wearer comfort, as compared with cuff structures in conventional articles. A method for manufacturing articles with such cuff structures, utilizing a warp beam as a supply mechanism, is also disclosed.

A first junction edge portion is formed on the inward side in the width direction of the absorbent article and a second junction edge portion is provided on the outward side in the width direction of the absorbent article. The first junction edge portion is located on the area of the surface layer on which the absorbent body is disposed. The second junction edge portion, in at least the area where the pair of wings are disposed, is located on the area of the surface layer and/or backside layer more outward in the width direction than the periphery of the absorbent body.

Abstract: An absorbent article includes an a pair of leakage protection walls including a standing gather. The leakage protection walls are affixed to the backsheet or an outer layer of the article. Each standing gather is configured to be folded over side edges of the absorbent article so that each standing gather extends towards a user causing portions of the first and second end regions of the absorbent article to curve inwardly. In addition, the inverse standing gathers force laterally extending sides of the article to stand erect, thereby creating a double sealing effect. Attaching the leakage protection wall to the backsheet or outer layer of the article increases the inlet area, while also improving leakage.

Abstract: A waistband structure for an absorbent article is disclosed. The waistband structure extending across at least one of the front and back waist regions and is composed of a filler material and a waistband material positioned over the filler material. The waistband structure may be bonded to at least one of the front and back waist regions via a bond pattern. The bond pattern may vary position in the longitudinal direction and have at least one peak and one valley across the respective waist region. Typically, a distance between the peak and the valley in the bond pattern is between 5 and 100 mm. The bond pattern results in a z-directional height of the waistband structure varying on the respective waist region.
