The article includes an absorbent body (1; 1′; 25) which is enclosed between an outer, liquid-impermeable casing sheet (7; 7′; 26) and an inner, liquid-permeable casing sheet (8; 8′; 27), this latter sheet lying proximal to a wearer's body in use. The article further includes on opposite sides of a longitudinal symmetry axis of the article flexible, longitudinally extending flaps (9, 10′ 9′, 10′; 28, 29), each of which is connected to the inner casing sheet along a longitudinal edge and which extends from the connected longitudinal edge in toward a longitudinal symmetry axis of the article. The flaps (9, 10; 9′, 10′; 28, 29) are joined together in the crotch part (15; 15′) of the article.

Abstract: A napkin package is difficult to form permanent folding, twisting or corrugation in a leakage preventing wall as folded and wrapped by a packaging sheet, to ensure raising of the leakage preventing wall from a surface of a sanitary napkin after opening the package for achieving satisfactory side leakage preventing effect. A sanitary napkin has longitudinally extending leakage preventing walls on both sides of a liquid absorbing portion. A reinforcement sheet is provided on a surface side of a folded sanitary napkin with covering a portion of the folding line, the reinforcement sheet is bent at a position corresponding to the folding line without forming crease, and portions of the leakage preventing walls located corresponding to the portion across which the folding line extends, are urged onto an outer surface of the bent portion of the reinforcement sheet by the elastic tension force.

Abstract: There is provided an absorbent article, such as a diaper, a pant diaper or an incontinence protector that includes longitudinally extending edges and transversally extending edges, a bottom liquid-impermeable sheet, an absorbent layer, longitudinally extending liquid barriers fastened along or on the longitudinal edges of the article, side-flaps which extend laterally outside the liquid barriers and a first upper, essentially liquid-permeable surface sheet between said liquid barriers and a second upper, essentially liquid-impermeable surface sheet outwardly of said liquid barriers, wherein the ends of the liquid barriers are folded down at the front and/or rear end-part and fastened flat against the first and/or the second upper surface sheet. Those areas of the surface sheets situated at the front and/or the rear end-part are comprised of essentially liquid-impermeable material or are covered with essentially liquid-impermeable material.

Abstract: An absorbent article suitable for use as a diaper or adult incontinence garment includes an absorbent body disposed between a cover sheet, an inner sheet. Longitudinally extending folds disposed on the inner sheet inhibit the leakage of bodily exudates from the edges of the article. Elastic members extend along a portion of the length of the folds in the mid portion of the article. In the back portion of the article, elastic members connected to the inner sheet extend adjacent the edges of the absorbent body to enhance the fit of the garment. In the front portion of the article, elastic members may also be connected to the inner sheet and extend adjacent the edges of the absorbent body to enhance the fit of the garment.

Abstract: A disposable pull-on undergarment having front and rear waist regions bonded together along longitudinally extending bonding zones to define a waist-hole and a pair of leg-holes. The respective bonding zones have an upper end lying most adjacent the waist-hole and a lower end lying most adjacent the leg-holes and extend from the upper ends toward the lower ends so that these bonding zones approach a longitudinal center line X of the undergarment.

Abstract: An absorbent garment having a pant-like configuration is constructed using side leak guards which are seamless, and which exhibit improved performance. The seamless leak guards are provided by incorporating a substantially liquid-impermeable outer cover into the garment having lateral edges which extend substantially beyond the lateral edges of the absorbent layer. Elastic bands attached to the outer cover urge the edges upward during wear, and against the wearer's body, to prevent leakage of waste material. The portions of the outer cover which extend laterally beyond the absorbent layer serve as seamless leak guards.

Abstract: A disposable undergarment such as a disposable diaper includes a front waist region, a rear waist region and a crotch region extending therebetween, the undergarment has afterward bonded edges extending along a longitudinal center line of the rear waist region and a concavity depressed toward a surface destined to be remote from the wearer's skin, the rear waist region is divided into a first rear waist region and a second rear waist region along a longitudinal center line extending in the longitudinal direction to bisect a transverse dimension of the undergarment, and the concavity is formed by drawing the first rear waist region and the second waist region toward each other and bonding the afterward bonded edges to each other on the longitudinal center line.

Abstract: A disposable sanitary article having elastic members extending to be associated with leg-openings secured under tension to the article along transversely opposite side edge portions of the sanitary article. The transversely opposite side edge portions respectively have first elastic zones extending across a crotch region in the longitudinal direction along a desired length, second elastic zones extending from the first elastic zones into a front waist region along a desired length and third elastic zones extending from the first elastic zones into a rear waist region along a desired length. The sections of the elastic members extending along the second elastic zones and the third elastic zones has values of stretch stress represented by a relationship of the second elastic zones<the third elastic zones or the third elastic zones<the second elastic zones.

Abstract: An outer surface sheet (1) for absorbent articles, such as diapers, incontinence protectors or sanitary napkins, and comprises at least one upstanding barrier flap (5, 6) which extends across at least a part of the surface sheet. The surface sheet includes at least two parts (7, 8, 9) which are disposed to that bordering edge portions overlap each other. The barrier flap (5, 6) is comprised of a strip of elastic material that has two long edge portions and two end edge portions, wherein one of the long edge portions of said strip is inserted in a stretched state between the mutually overlapping edge portions of the two surface sheet parts (7, 8 and 7, 9 respectively) and firmly secured there-between.

Abstract: A disposable absorbent article having a pair of barrier leg cuffs and a pair of side panels is provided. The barrier leg cuffs are disposed along opposing sides of an absorbent core and the side panels are disposed outboard of the barrier leg cuffs along opposing sides of the absorbent article. The barrier leg cuffs are integrally formed with the side panels from a single nonwoven ply.

Abstract: The invention comprises an absorbent garment and a method for making an absorbent garment. An absorbent garment is provided comprising elastic side belts attached at an angle to the main body of the garment to provide a better fit to the user. Adjustment strips preferably are affixed to the elastic side belts and to the main body of the garment to allow the user to repeatedly adjust the garment while the garment is being worn. A method for making the absorbent garment also is disclosed.

Abstract: A pants-type disposable wearing article has a holder means and an absorbent pad means. The absorbent pad means has a crotch region extending to a front and rear waist regions of the holder means and has longitudinal front and rear ends attached to the front and the rear waist regions. The absorbent pad means has a liquid absorbent core and is provided with leak-barrier flaps rising from side edges of the core and a ribbon-like suspenders attached to the top edges of the leak-barrier flaps. The extensions of the suspenders from the front and rear ends of the absorbent pad means are connecting the top edges of the leak-barrier flaps with the inner surface of the front and rear waist regions of the holder means.

The pad is folded inwardly in the vicinity of transversely opposite side edges with the topsheet inside in a rear region, and folded outwardly in a transverse direction along folding lines extending in a longitudinal direction and joined together along the folding lines so that in the rear region of the pad defines an excretion receiving space extending up- and rearward to a rear end defining an apex and a pair of flanges extending outwardly from the respective folding lines to the side edges.

Abstract: A pant-like, prefastened, disposable absorbent article having elastic and/or extensible components to provide a Percent Fit Range of at least about 33%, more desirably about 80% to about 150%. The disposable absorbent article has prefastened fasteners to allow for easy donning of the article. After initial donning of the article, a waist size adjustment feature allows the waist perimeter dimension to be adjusted to conform the waist opening to the waist of the wearer.

Abstract: There is disclosed an absorbent article including: a main body; and leakage preventing side walls provided on two sides of the main body to have root ends jointed to the surface of the liquid receiving side and to have free ends positioned apart therefrom. Each leakage preventing side wall includes: a nonwoven fabric of thermoplastic fibers; and an elastic member for exhibiting an elastic shrinking force in the longitudinal direction. The nonwoven fabric is provided with: at least two rigid regions having corrugations, ridges and valleys of which are individually extended in a direction from the root end to the free end and are repeated regularly in the longitudinal direction; and a rigid boundary portion in which the corrugations are discontinuous and which is extended in the longitudinal direction midway between the root end and the free end.

Therefore, even if urine and other bodily waste permeate into the skin-side sheet 3, they do not ooze out from the end portion of the skin-side sheet 3.

Abstract: A containment flap for an absorbent article, such as an incontinence garment, has elasticity in the long axis and extensibility of the flap with a low modulus of elasticity in its transverse direction. The long axis tension of the flap has a force vector normalized to the transverse direction when the flap is placed in curvature over the body of a wearer, thereby providing a force for extending the flap in the transverse direction to maintain contact with the body of the wearer when the garment begins to sag, such as may happen due to gravity when the garment is loaded with absorbed bodily fluids. Material suitable for constructing such flaps is further disclosed.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods of fabricating absorbent articles. In a method of the invention, a bodyside liner, an absorbent core, and an outer cover are joined to form an absorbent article web sausage. Leg cut-outs are cut on opposing sides of the web sausage, and a waist opening is cut in a central region of the web sausage. Adhesive is applied to one of (i) a waist piece material and (ii) the web sausage about the waist opening; and also to one of (iii) extensible leg cuff material and (iv) the web sausage adjacent the leg cut-outs. A waist piece is severed from waist piece material, and is placed. over the waist opening and secured to the web sausage. Leg cuffs are severed from the leg cuff material, and are placed over the leg cutouts and secured to the web sausage. The waist piece and leg cut-outs are preferably stretched to a dimension representing about 5% to about 95% of stretch-to-stop dimensions when bonded to the web sausage.

A surface of the fixed subsection opposed to the lower side of the body is joined to the lower side and opposite end sections of the barrier flaps are collapsed inward of the body and joined to the upper side of the body at the opposite ends of the body.

The barrier material may further be laminated to additional materials. The flap desirably has elasticity in the long axis and extensibility of the flap with a low modulus of elasticity in its transverse direction. The long axis tension of this flap has a force vector normalized to the transverse direction when the flap is placed in curvature over the body of a wearer, thereby providing a force for extending the flap in the transverse direction to maintain contact with the body of the wearer when the garment begins to sag, such as may happen due to gravity when the garment is loaded with absorbed bodily fluids.

In particular embodiments, a retaining member is bonded to the liner and defines therebetween a compartment having a volume, and a cover formed of a liquid impermeable material is bonded to the liner.

Abstract: A disposable wearing article includes a liquid-absorbent first core disposed between top- and backsheets, a pair of side flaps extending in a longitudinal direction outside transversely opposite side edges of the first core in a crotch region and a pair of second cores spaced from the respective side edges of the first core and disposed between the top- and backsheets. The respective side edges of the first core in the crotch region curve inward in a transverse direction of the article to describe circular arcs while inner side edges of the respective second cores in the crotch region curve outward in the transverse direction of the article to describe circular arcs. The first core and the second cores are bonded together in the vicinity of the side edge portions of the first core and in the vicinity of the inner side edge portions of the second cores in the crotch region so that the side flaps obliquely extend downward from the side edge portions of the first core.

Abstract: An absorbent article is provided with a pair of side flaps along transversely opposite side edges of the article. Each of these side flaps is formed on its upper surface with a plurality of pleats extending longitudinally of the side flap. Each of the pleats contains an elastically stretchable/contractile member extending along its distal edge so as to operate longitudinally of the pleat.
