  • Patent number: 11026708
Abstract: A device and a method for increasing or restoring a flow in a body lumen are provided. The device and the method may treat conditions related to a stroke, such as an ischemic stroke, by removing an occlusion from a blood vessel and/or reopen a blood vessel. The device may comprise a tubing compartment, a central wire, and an engaging compartment. The engaging compartment may comprise a distal engaging element and a proximal engaging element. A clot or occlusion present in the body lumen such as an artery may be engaged in and/or between the distal and proximal engaging elements. Further, the positions of one or both of the engaging elements and the distance therebetween can be adjusted to ensure the engagement of the clot or occlusion.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a medical device for recanalizing a vessel having a blockage and restoring blood flow through an obstructed blood vessel includes an expandable member coupled to a core wire and a hypotube that are movable relative to each other to manipulate the expandable member between various configurations. The expandable member having a capture structure in an expanded configuration. The expandable member can include multiple interstices formed by woven mesh filaments or braided strands through which the material blocking the vessel can pass. The capture structure can include a shape on its external surface that facilitates dislodgement and capture of the material within capture spaces created by the expandable member. Some embodiments include a capture sack or cap for capturing material and preventing material from migrating down stream of the blockage. Superoxygenated blood can be infused distal to the blockage to minimize loss of function during an ischemic event.

Abstract: A clot retrieval device 1 for removing occlusive clot from a blood vessel, the device comprises an inner elongate body 3 having a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration and an outer elongate body 2 at least partially overlying the inner elongate body 2. The outer elongate body 2 is expandable to a radial extent which is greater than the radial extent of the inner body 3 in the deployed configuration to define a clot reception space 11. The outer elongate body 2 comprises a distal end portion 24, 49 and the inner elongate body 3 comprises a main body portion 10 and a distal portion which extends in the deployed configuration towards the outer elongate body 2 to a greater extent than the main body portion. The distal portion 10 of the inner elongate member 3 and the distal end portion 24, 49 of the outer elongate body 2 together define a three dimensional protective structure to substantially prevent distal egress of clot or clot fragments from the device.

Abstract: A handle for a surgical instrument, which handle has a carriage designed to move an actuation rod. A second actuation element is arranged adjacent to the first actuation element and is rotatable over the longitudinal axis of the main body. The second actuation element is annular, toward the first actuation element, and carries on its inner circumference a rotationally fixed locking ring. The carriage has a finger which extends, eccentrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the main body, from a front face of the carriage facing the locking ring. In a locked state, a protuberance on the ring provides an abutment for the carriage. In the release state, the finger is offset with respect to the protuberance, and a range of travel of the carriage is freed.
