  • Patent number: 5891186
Abstract: A personalized capsule used for physical therapy that has an elongated horizontally extending bed on a portable base, which is designed to support a person in a horizontal position. The bed is covered with an overlying cover that encapsulates the person on the bed, while leaving the head exposed, and provides selected heat, bed vibrations, lamps, and heated air to warm the entire body to desired levels for physical therapy purposes. The dry heat provided by the heating system aides in improving circulation, and also temporarily relieves aches and pains as well as relaxing muscles. The cover is provided with window openings covered by transparent windows so that the patient can be observed. The windows pivot open for manipulation or other treatment of the patient without opening the entire cover.

  • Patent number: 5830123
Abstract: A pivotable irradiating device for a person on a lying surface provides extensively uniform continued irradiation of the lying surface without any interruption in time when the irradiating device is pivoted out of the starting position. The irradiating device has at least one radiator in a housing. The housing is connected to a securing element via a rotatable connector (hinge). The axis of rotation of the hinge is located outside a central axis of the irradiating device. The intersection of these two axes is located in the center of the lying surface or in its vicinity.

  • Patent number: 5733314
Abstract: A portable solar tanning spa having a longitudinally extending first half section and a longitudinally extending second half section, each being formed of a light transparent material. The first half section and the second half section are rotatably connected such that the second half section may rotate into a position parallel with the first half section to allow the user to enter and exit as desired. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the longitudinally extending first half section and the longitudinally extending second half section are arranged in a vertical position and are pivotally connected to the rim of a back member to allow the first half section and the second half section to swing outwardly into an open position and inwardly into a closed position. In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the first half section and the second half section form a cylindrical enclosure having an opening for receiving a door to allow the user to enter or exit the spa as desired.

  • Patent number: 5683437
Abstract: Tanning bed apparatus is provided for providing a person with an artificial sun tan. The apparatus includes a lower tanning unit and an upper tanning unit that is moveable between an open and a closed position where the units together form a tanning chamber. A first longitudinally extending edge of the lower tanning unit is positioned lower than the vertical center of the tanning chamber to ease the task of entering and exiting the chamber. A second longitudinally extending edge of the lower tanning unit includes at least one tanning bulb that is positioned at or above the vertical center of the chamber to eliminate uneven tanning along one longitudinally extending edge of the user. At least one tanning bulb in the first longitudinally extending edge of the upper tanning unit is positioned at or below the vertical center of the chamber to eliminate uneven tanning along the opposite longitudinally extending edges of the user.

  • Patent number: 5645578
Abstract: A therapeutic device that provides light therapy in a sauna bed that has a hood that fits over the head of a person lying in a sauna bed. The hood has interior lights providing selected light intensity that simulates outdoor light at mid day and which directs and scatters the light in a manner substantially similar to the direction of light from natural sources onto the head of a user. A strobe light is also provided as well as selectable colored lights to permit the user to select a desired light regime.

  • Patent number: 5616140
Abstract: A battery operated, portable laser bandage having one or many lasers or hyper-red light emitting diodes imbedded therein may be worn by a patient and applied to a specific treatment area. The device supplies the patient with a preprogrammed laser therapy regimen. The patient may wear the device for up to a week between visits to a physician. At the end of the prescribed treatment length or at the end of a week, batteries in the device may be changed or recharged and the physician may re-program the device for a different treatment regimen, if desired. The device is small enough to be worn under clothes and does not interfere with the patient's normal activities.

  • Patent number: 5466248
Abstract: A foot ghost ender comprised of a rounded steel shell having a front, a back, a left sidewall, a right sidewall, an open top, a closed bottom, an inner surface, and an outer surface. An aperture is formed in the right sidewall. An extension is integral with the open top. The extension has an open circular top. A plurality of tanning lamps are secured to the inner surface of the rounded steel shell. An adjustable foot rest is secured to the inner surface of the rounded steel shell. The device also contains a retractable power cord having a first end, and a second end. The first end is received through the aperture formed within the right sidewall of the rounded steel shell. A three-prong polarized plug secured to the first end. A control panel with adjustable timer is secured to the right sidewall of the rounded steel wall. The adjustable timer functions to turn the tanning lamps on and off.

  • Patent number: 5412561
Abstract: A method of analyzing serial automated visual field data calculates a total field vector of the threshold sensitivity of points in a visual field and compares the total field vector with a calculated normal field vector for a given patient. The vector angle between the total field vector and the normal field vector is calculated to determine the distribution of threshold sensitivities to characterize the localization and the magnitude of field changes. In one embodiment, the sensitivities of each point in the visual field with respect to normal sensitivities for each point is plotted for each of a series of time spaced visual field tests. The single plot uses a line symmetrical about a zero axis whose magnitude reflects the difference from the norm for each point in each exam and forms a graphic depiction of changes in the visual field at each point over a series of visual field tests.

  • Patent number: 5282842
Abstract: A method and apparatus to effect tanning in humans. The method utilizes very short discrete pulses, with a dark period of low to zero energization between discrete pulses, of ultraviolet or visible light irradiation of selected wave length to effect the tanning. Different apparati are disclosed to carry out the invention. One type of apparatus continuously generates irradiation of the selected wave length and projects that irradiation through mechanical pathblockers to create the discrete pulses. Another type of apparatus intermittently generates irradiation in the desired discrete pulse and of the desired wave length to create the desired effect.
