Abstract: A refrigerated case has an insulated support structure that serves as a display platform and provides contact cooling for preservation of fresh food products. The case includes a base and an insulated support structure coupled to the base. The insulated support structure includes a platform portion configured for placement of food products directly thereon, and a front wall portion and a rear wall portion. The front and rear wall portions support a canopy, so that the insulated support structure and the canopy substantially enclose and define a temperature controlled space. The insulated support structure includes a top surface facing the temperature controlled space, and a bottom surface opposite the top surface with an interior space defined between the top and bottom surfaces. A pattern of cooling passages are arranged within the interior space along an underside of the top surface at the platform portion to provide contact cooling to food products disposed on the platform portion.

Abstract: A point-of-use food holding cabinet keeps food products cold using a conventional refrigeration device or a semiconductor solid state heat sink. In one embodiment, one compartment can be kept cold or refrigerated while an adjacent compartment can be kept warm or hot. Solid state heat pumps such as Peltier devices absorb heat on one side and emit heat on the other. By configuring the solid state heat sinks appropriately, one compartment or shelf of a holding cabinet can be refrigerated while an adjacent compartment can be kept warm.

Abstract: In a self-contained plug-in display cabinet system (100), the evaporation temperature of the evaporator (25) is between ?4° C. and 2° C., and with the adaption of constant pre-cooling means (22), the high-temperature and high-pressure refrigerant gas discharged by the compressor (21) is pre-cooled allowing use of a low system pressure ratio and, thus, a high temperature compressor (21). Furthermore, there may be no need for the evaporator to be defrosted, which overcomes the drawbacks of the currently available display cabinet systems that the refrigeration cycles have to be interrupted for defrosting the evaporator, thereby having further energy saving and being advantageous in keeping the temperature of the food stable.

Abstract: The present display refrigerator with a multi-tray radial arrangement is formed by a radial arrangement from which a number of trays detach, depending on the requirements of the seller. The trays are shaped as circle sectors defined by two radii and the arc formed between both, and are fastened to a central shaft on which they slide to modify the height thereof depending on the size of the product to be stored on said tray. In this way, maximum use is made of the internal volume of the refrigerator, with each tray set at a different level depending on the product to be displayed therein. Also, the radial arrangement is connected to a rotating mechanism which causes homogenous cooling for all products displayed in the refrigerator. Ergonomically, the refrigerator provides a marked competitive advantage since the external design thereof affords more display in less physical space.

A contact cooling device or gravity cooling device is disposed within the space to receive chilled liquid coolant from a coolant system supply header and to return warmed liquid coolant to a coolant system return header. An air flow device in an air flow path directs a flow of air over a dehumidification coil that operates frost-free at a temperature of greater than 32° F. for discharge as a dehumidified air curtain over the open front. A precooling coil is provided in the air flow path upstream of the dehumidification coil, the precooling coil receives warmed liquid coolant from the coolant system return header to precool the flow of air, so that the dehumidified air curtain operates as a humidity tempering boundary to minimize the humidity within the storage space.

Abstract: A method of controlling a refrigerated merchandiser. The method includes providing a case that defines a product display area and an air passage that has an inlet and an outlet, positioning an evaporator in the air passage to refrigerate the air, positioning a fan in the air passage to move the air through the passage, and logging a first temperature value during frost-free operation of the evaporator. The method also includes logging a second temperature value during frosted operation of the evaporator, calculating a difference of the first and second temperature values, and defrosting the evaporator when the difference exceeds a pre-determined value. Each of the first temperature value and the second temperature value is independently associated with at least one of the air entering the inlet of the air passage, the air exiting the outlet of the air passage, and saturated evaporator temperature.

Abstract: A cooling apparatus for such things as convenience foods and beverages has a tilted, open faced bed from which persons may select objects. The apparatus is self-contained, and may run from a standard single phase electrical outlet. It may be carried by two people, and is suitable for mounting either on its own base in a recess in a checkout counter or other similar installation. The open faced be may have a channel depth of section that is relatively deep as compared with to its width, the flow path length, or the depth of the flow released to run along the channel, thereby tending to discourage mixing of the cooled flow with the surrounding ambient environment. The apparatus may include a two piece molded housing that defines the structural skeleton for both the cooling bed and a lodgement for various elements of the cooling system. The bed may include a porous deck, or drain panels, that may tend to encourgare cooled air to drain toward a cooling plenum intake panel.
