With Air Controlling Or Directing Means Patents (Class 62/255)
  • Patent number: 4369631
Abstract: An improvement in open front refrigerated cabinets for food product storage and displaying in which transparent barrier doors and an air defrost system are provided for improving the energy efficiency. Barrier doors and an air defrost system can be retrofitted onto an open front refrigerated display case in order to permit operation of the cabinet with lower energy consumption. The air defrost system selectively creates a gap between the barrier doors and the associated access opening in order to provide for through-flow of ambient air during a defrost cycle. Open front cabinets having either single or multiple circulated air bands can be improved with this invention. The method of retrofitting such cabinets and the method of operations thereof is also included.

  • Patent number: 4361012
Abstract: An energy efficient refrigerated display cabinet having glass barrier doors and one or more guard air bands to protect the primary refrigerated air band. A single guard air band is circulated about the primary refrigerated air band in order to protect the same from contact with the inner walls of the cabinet or the ambient air upon opening of the barrier doors. The cabinet can be provided with an air defrost system in which ambient air is taken in through ports in the cabinet which are selectively closed by gates or through a gap between the barrier doors and the associated access opening. An ambient air band can also be provided for circulation across the outer surface of the barrier doors in order to slightly raise the heat transfer into the glass panes in order to aid reduction of moisture condensate formation on the glass panes.

  • Patent number: 4341081
Abstract: An open front refrigerated display case having mechanisms for establishing an inner refrigerated air band encircling the display portion of the case and secondary air band also encircling the display portion and being positioned outside of the inner air band. An inner air conduit passes around the cabinet of the display case and has an outlet opening at one end of the access opening in the front of the cabinet and an inlet opening at the other end of the front access opening in the cabinet. A fan circulates air through this inner air conduit with the air leaving the outlet opening and being directed toward and received by the inlet opening of the conduit, thereby establishing an inner air band along with an inner air curtain across the access opening in the front of the cabinet. An evaporator coil arranged within the inner air conduit serves to refrigerate the air passing along the inner air band during a refrigeration cycle of operation.

  • Patent number: 4312190
Abstract: A refrigerated glass door merchandiser in which heat generated during a defrost cycle of operation is prevented from flowing into the refrigerated display section. The glass door merchandiser is formed by a cabinet having an access opening in one of its walls with a glass door covering such access opening. The glass door is movable for enabling access through the access opening to products within the display section of the merchandiser. An air conduit extends around the cabinet and has an outlet opening at one end of the access opening and an inlet opening at the other end of the access opening. The outlet and inlet openings are arranged in alignment so that air circulated through the conduit and leaving the outlet opening is directed towards and received by the inlet opening for establishing a continuous air band around the cabinet and across the access opening during a refrigeration cycle of operation.

  • Patent number: 4210000
Abstract: An improved refrigerating apparatus for use as a refrigerator, showcase for frozen foods or the like, comprising an airtight chamber defined by an inner wall and an outer wall and hermetically enclosing air therein as separated from outside, a storage compartment defined by the inner wall and surrounded by the airtight chamber, a circulation passage provided within the airtight chamber for passing cold air around the storage compartment in circulation, and a cooler and blower disposed in the passage. The cold air flowing through the airtight chamber refrigerates the storage compartment through the heat conduction of the inner wall.

  • Patent number: 4085986
Abstract: An open-top, thermally insulated "secondary" case for the storage and display of perishable food stuffs which must be maintained at a refrigerated temperature. The case is "parasitic" in the sense that it itself includes no independent refrigeration apparatus but is, rather, supported on a wall of a primary or "host" refrigerated storage and display case so that, with the aid of a cooperating fixed baffle, air deflection panel, or vane, cooled air from the primary storage case is directed into the secondary case, thereby to cool the interior of the secondary case and the articles retained therein.

  • Patent number: 4019339
Abstract: A System and Cold Cabinet Server therefor to condition pre-packaged foods and to maintain them at serving temperature during storage and for customer access. A structural relationship of means is provided in cooperatively related bin type cabinets to combine the inherent principles of convection, absorption and recirculation to maximum advantage and to the end that heat induction from the surrounding atmosphere is minimized despite the completely open and accessible bin configuration. The Cold Cabinet is a self-sufficient entity provided with a replaceable refrigeration unit supplied with power such as an electrical plug-in, and is completely mobile; and adapted to be quickly assembled in service lines that are readily modified or broken down for storage.
